A Black Superman Movie Is Reportedly In Development!

DC is in a weird spot right now. To be honest, the Superhero genre as a whole has been a mess for the past few years now. Marvel’s content has taken a considerable drop and it seems like they’re never recovering. DC on the other hand has been struggling to create a universe, with one movie it feels like they’re back on track but then the next movie pushes them down a cliff. The DCEU was never more directionless than at this hour. DC and Warner Bros. knows that as well. That is why apart from the DCEU, they make movies about other DC characters as well which are not part of the DCEU. Joker and its sequel Joker: Folie à Deux are one example for it and Matt Reeves’ Batman trilogy would be the other one. This week DC’s latest movie Black Adam released.

The film saw the return of Henry Cavill’s Superman in its post credit scene and just after this we got the news that there is a Man of Steel 2 in development at Warner Bros. However, it looks like it this is not the only Superman and non-DCEU project that is under development at Warner Bros. According to reports, there is a Black Superman movie in development at Warner Bros.

Is a Black Superman film actually happening?

A Black Iteration of Superman was been talked for a long time and fans have been demanding a movie to be made but things never progressed any further.  Many fans had fancasted a lot of actors to play Black Superman but they just remained fancastings. I would personally like to Michael B. Jordan to play Superman. I know seeing Idris Elba as Superman would be cool but I think his age would restrict him to play the part and he is anyways Death Shot now.
However, according to reports now it looks like Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J. Abrams’ Black Superman reboot is in development at Warner Bros. Discovery. I hate to follow a good news, with a bad news but its my job to tell you. Other then the news that the film is in development we have no other updates on the Black Superman project. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the movie is still trudging forward at Warner Bros. Discovery. J.J. Abrams is well known in the Disney circuit as he was the one who started the sequel Star Wars.
He has quiet often stated that he’d like to make a Black Superman film but things were never moved but now it looks like we might finally get to see the film. We don’t know Abrams’ role with the studio at this point, especially as several of his WB-produced projects have been canceled or looking for new platforms. Reports suggest that he is still very much on track to produce Coates’ new Superman film. However, there is no update on who would direct the Black Superman reboot or where they are at with the script and casting.

DCEU’s latest film Black Adam is currently playing in theatres near you.
