The Boys Season 3 is all set to debut on 3rd June 2022 and we saw the first teaser for the same a few days ago. We are sure that you may have already watched The Boys Presents: Diabolical by now. If not, please go ahead and watch it as it would take hardly 2 hours of your time and reveal many more deeper and darker secrets of Vought. Not to mention, it features Butcher and many members of The Seven throughout its 8 mini-episodes run. Not just that, it is one of the most important things we’ll be talking about in this article.
So, some major SPOILERS for The Boys Presents: Diabolical and The Boys comics follow below, which can potentially spoil season 3, but in the end are just theories.
Black Noir Might Take Prominence
Up until, season 2 we have seen Black Noir as a silent but deadly member of The Seven. In season 1, he acted as a comic relief, yet had a few moments to shine like when he fought Kimiko. In Season 2 his role expanded a little and he was shown as a ruthless mercenary and spy, who’d do anything Vought asks him to. We also saw his other side as he was shown to be sympathetic with children and was broken when he heard about Compound V. Apparently, his parents must have left him with Vought to conduct Compound V experiments on him for money.
At this point we know that Black Noir isn’t a cheap knock off of Batman but is instead one of the most powerful creatures on the show. As of season 2 finale, he has killed Kimiko once, almost killed Butcher and the Boys, beaten Starlight to pulp twice, killed a bunch of terrorists and beheaded Naqib. His only weakness as of now seems to be tree nuts. I am pretty sure he would have taken Maeve down if she hadn’t surprised him and made him choke on an Almond Joy. So, he is pretty strong and as ruthless as Edgar or Homelander.
In comics, Black Noir is revealed to be a clone of Homelander, created by Vought in case Homelander goes berserk. But we have seen PrimeVideo take different route for the series many times and honestly, Black Noir doesn’t seem to be a clone. Here’s why. In season 2’s opening when he Naqib blows himself up to take Noir down, Noir’s skin appeared to be burnt. He didn’t shake even one inch from he stood but he did appear to be burnt badly. So, if he was Homelander’s clone, he wouldn’t have got burnt. Again maybe his skin was pre-burnt during his childhood or something but from the looks of it, he may not be a clone.
Black Noir vs Homelander vs Butcher
Now, if we accept the premise that Black Noir is indeed going to be the big bad of the series like comics, here’s what might happen. If we take source material as reference, Black Noir is the one responsible for breaking Homelander as he framed him for many acts Homelander didn’t commit. Being a clone, he carried out many atrocities including raping and killing Becca but frames Homelander for the same. Homelander, not being mentally sane, couldn’t remember these events and broke even further.
As a result, Homelander goes insane and goes on a rampage, kills the President and what not. This leads Black Noir to fight him off and kill him in the process, following which Butcher beats Black Noir to death with his crowbar. All of this seems possible as of now. After watching season 2 finale and season 3 trailer, we are pretty sure Homelander is going insane and reaching his breaking point. The trailer also reveals that now Butcher has super powers to go up against the supes. In Season 2, we also saw the Black Noir is indeed Edgar and Vought’s spy who follows orders ruthlessly.
The only thing which is left to basically confirm this theory, is the fact that we still do not know much about Black Noir. He might not be as powerful as the comics and might follow a different storyline. In The Boys Presents: Diabolical, we saw Black Noir helping out Homelander but at the same time keeping an eye on him. This was the basic purpose Vought made Black Noir for – to keep a check on Homelander and eliminate him if the need arises. So, there are a few ifs and buts here but we are pretty sure that Black Noir will have a major role to play in the following seasons, so keep a keen eye on him!
