At this point there is no point pretending that you aren’t already aware of Gohan’s new transformation in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. One of the cons of loving anime yet not being in Japan is that you cannot possibly avoid spoilers for 3 or more months. So, instead let us speculate and enjoy this latest development but put a hold on seeing the leaked movie. Anyways, now that Final Gohan has been unlocked will he be a part of DBS season 2 or the franchise’s further productions?
Is Final Gohan Canon in Dragon Ball Franchise?
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is indeed canon and this has been officially confirmed many times. The previous film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly is also canon but we still haven’t see Broly appear in the manga which just debuted its chapter 85. So, even after being canon the character from Broly haven’t yet made an appearance in the Manga. Does this mean, we won’t see Final Gohan as well? We’ll talk about that in a moment, but first let’s talk about this new form, for those who aren’t aware.
To defeat the Cell Max monster, Gohan achieves a new form called Final Gohan / Gohan Blanco with white hair and red eyes. In this form he emits a purple glow covered with lightening and a white aura. This badass and well deserved transformation looks like a love child of Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. You can read all about it here along with his full leaked transformation video. Although, the transformation is unexplained, he’s one character who actually deserved to get stronger and unlock his hidden potential which was hyped ever since Dragon Ball Z debuted.
Will Final Gohan Be In Dragon Ball Super Season 2?
It doesn’t look like Final Gohan would appear anytime in Dragon Ball Super Season 2. The manga is already quite ahead and till now there is no mention of Final Gohan. In fact, Gohan has went back to being underpowered like he was during majority of Dragon Ball Super. But as it happens, DBS: Super Hero takes place after the Galactic Patrol Arc/Moro Arc and sometime during the Granolah arc. So, there is a slight chance that Final Gohan might still make an appearance in DBS Season 2.
Will Final Gohan Be in DBS Manga?
Once again, as of now there is no mention of Final Gohan in the manga. The manga is currently towards the end of Granolah Arc and so far there has been no word on Gohan’s new transformation. It is possible that in some parallel event the showdown between Red Ribbon Army and Gohan must have taken place. Its a bit complicated but here is how the producer, Akio Iyoku explains it:
“Between this film and Toyotaro-sensei’s manga, we currently have two lines of Dragon Ball Super running. To begin with, the film is written purely as a sequel to [Dragon Ball Super: Broly]. We wanted to pick up on and meet the expectations of everyone who’s stuck with Dragon Ball so far, along the lines of, ‘It’d be neat this happened,’ or ‘I hope this kind of character shows up.’ And in [V-Jump’s] pages, we have the continuing story of Goku and Vegeta. We’ll see new strong enemies show up, and new stories, and events will continue to progress.
Of course Toriyama diligently oversees the storylines for the manga too, so it’s like we have events running in parallel. In terms of timeline placement, we try to not build things in too strictly-we’d like to leave margins in the story, to allow for a greater degree of freedom. For example, Broly himself was an anime-original character who was brought into the world of the main series by Toriyama’s own hand, and it’s precisely those kinds of margins being left in the world of the fiction that was allowed for and experiment in the first place. To put it simply, ‘Things are more interesting this way!'”
That’s a lot of words but the gist is that the filmmakers have taken a creative liberty with these movies and these characters and new transformations might or might not be implemented in the Manga. So, even after being canon, there is no guarantee whether Final Gohan or Broly would show up in Dragon Ball Super season 2. But there is a chance they might; when or how, is still left to be seen.
