Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the most important installment of the collection of crossover monster movies that we call Monsterverse. The franchise has been building up to this movie for years now. The Adam Wingard directorial is uniting the forces of Kong and Godzilla after the duo fought their hearts out in Godzilla vs Kong that released just two years ago. Considering the current cinematic landscape, we’re in dire need of a summer blockbuster and Godzilla x Kong promises to be just that. Although, is this the endgame of the franchise? Are they wrapping up the monster movies here with this colossal crossover adventure? Well, we don’t know. But you know what might hint us about the future of the franchise? A post credit scene. So, does Godzilla x Kong have a post credit scene? Let’s find out.

No Future Tease In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire!

The concept of post credit scenes was started by Marvel Studios in modern cinema. Giving the audience just one more nugget of the film that teases about the upcoming developments in the franchise. After Marvel, DC also followed the trend and soon post credit scenes became a norm in the superhero genre.

However, recently many mainstream Hollywood franchises have also adopted this tradition with Fast X having a post-credits scene where we saw Luke Hobbs’ return. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts added a mid-credits too in order to revive Mirage. There are still some franchises which opt against the trope. For instance, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse didn’t have a post-credits, for example.

Just like Across the Spider-Verse, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One and Meg 2: The Trench, The Equalizer 3 A Haunting In Venice The Creator, The Exorcist: Believer and Madame Web, Godzilla x Kong doesn’t have a post credit scene. Considering the fact that Godzilla vs Kong too didn’t feature a post credit scene, this doesn’t come as a huge surprise.

However, that doesn’t mean Monsterverse movies haven’t adopted the concept of post credit scenes at all. Kong: Skull Island included a moment that introduced Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah to the universe, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters ended by showing that Alan Jonah (Charles Dance) had purchased Ghidora’s severed head.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will release in theatres near you on March 29th, 2024.
