The Marvel Cinematic Universe completed its Infinity Saga in 2019. The 23 movies that Marvel made in the 11 years of the Infinity Saga were focused on the characters that Marvel had the rights to. In the early 90s, Marvel was going bankrupt so they started to sell the rights to their characters to different studios in order to survive. They sold the X-Men rights to Fox Studios, Hulk rights to Universal Pictures and Spiderman rights to Sony Pictures. While Marvel was able to strike a deal with Sony and Universal, they weren’t able to do the same with Fox.
Marvel got Spiderman in the MCU as long as Sony gets to distributes his solo films and they get all the profits but he can appear other crossover films that Marvel distributes. Marvel had almost the same deal with Universal Pictures but they didn’t make a solo Hulk movie since 2009 and Hulk simply appeared in team-up films. However, after Disney acquired Fox, Marvel got all their characters back. So now that Marvel was starting a new saga it made sense for all these characters to appear in the upcoming movies but until now we haven’t seen any of these characters in Phase 4. Although, a recent update suggests that we are going to see these characters very soon.
X-Men: Giancarlo Esposito wants to play Professor X?
Giancarlo Esposito, one of the legends of the TV world is set to debut in the MCU. He played Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Stan Edgar in the The Boys and Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. He has played cold and terrifying villains in four of the biggest shows of recent times. The Breaking Bad star made an appearance on TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio, Texas on Friday – 5th August. In that convention Esposito mentioned that he has been meeting with Marvel regarding some roles.
In a Tik Tok video from @countdowncitygeeks Esposito confirmed that he has he will be debuting in the MCU and he has been in talks with for some time now. He mentioned, “So, I have not worked for Marvel yet. I’ve been in a room with them and talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is on the lines of that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put into his stories. They do the same thing.”
While a lot of people have fan casted him as Dr. Doom and honestly I think that is the best role he can play but it looks like he wants a change of pace after playing villains in The Mandalorian, The Boys, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He mentioned that he’d like to play the leader of the X-Men – Professor X. He even mentioned he might be interested in playing Magneto. Honestly, I would love if he plays Dr. Doom, one of the biggest Marvel villains.
It looks like it is up to him he’ll go for Professor X and he can fit into that role as well. Whichever role he plays he’ll be wonderful as it as he is such a good actor. For now it looks like Marvel has simply put out a bunch of roles in front of the actor and asked him to choose. However, there are no official announcements yet and we don’t know whether Marvel will approve or agree with the actor’s choice.
Esposito said, “So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X. Pick one? I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different. I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.
MCU’s newest film- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release in theatres on 11th November 2022.
