Furiosa Mad Max Spin-Off, Chris Hemsworth's First Look Leaked!

The Mad Max film released in 1979 paved the way for a new action franchise set in the dystopian future. While the first film starring Mel Gibson was a rare film that was critically acclaimed as well as a box office juggernaut, the sequels to the same were not quite it. The second film in the franchise, Mad Max 2: The road warrior was praised by the critics it couldn’t mirror the box office success of the first. It’s budget was juiced up quite a bit as compared to the first. The third film, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome had a box office run similar to the second film. However, the critics seem to like it. So, nearly 30 years after the original’s released we got a reboot to the franchise- Mad Max: Fury Road featuring Tom Hardy (Max) and Charlize Theron (Furiosa). It was once again helmed by George Miller, the director of the first three films and I think George Miller’s best idea after making the original Mad Max films was to reboot Mad Max into a new franchise.

The Mad Max reboot like the original enjoyed a glorious box office run and great critical acclaim. While Tom Hardy got his deserved praise for playing Max, the show stealer according to many was Charlize Theron for her portrayal of Furiosa and the fans began demanding a spin off. To our delight, we got to know that a few months ago the spin-off was officially revealed to be under production. Soon after that we get our first look at the new film in the franchise courtesy of an Australian newspaper. However, after the initial leak of set photos, news from the Furiosa’s production were sparse. However, today the tide has changed as we’ve just gotten a leak and it is a biggie. We have gotten Chris Hemsworth’s first look from the film.

Who is Hemsworth Playing in the Furiosa?

Furiosa Mad Max Prequel Official Premise and Set Images Out

The prequel’s official description read as, “As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

“George saw Chris initially as a courtesy and then fell in love with the idea,” P. J. Voeten who produced Mad Max Fury Road shared in  Kyle Buchanan’s book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road about the idea of the prequel “He’s going to play totally against type, the lead baddie. Unfortunately, we’ve got to find all of our other characters that aren’t around anymore: a new Immortan, a new Bullet Farmer, and a few others.”

As Hemsworth’s relationship with Marvel is dicey now, given that the fourth Thor film is out and even they’re still keeping Thor around it doesn’t look like the OG Avenger has much to do in the MCU anymore. The latest film Thor: Love and Thunder had zero to no effect on the current situation of the MCU. It is great that Hemsworth is moving away from Thor and Marvel. It is great to see him take a new challenge in a new IP. Although, this isn’t the first time Hemsworth will be playing a villain. He played the villain in Spiderhead that came out this year on Netflix. It will be amazing to see Hemsworth in a new light. Here’s his leaked first look:

The film stars Anya Taylor Joy in the lead role of Furiosa and the supporting cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones and Yahya Abdul Mateen II. We hope to get more updates from the film’s production soon. Mad Max: Furiosa will hit theatres on May 24th 2024.
