I think we’re all aware of the recent happenings in the life of Johnny Depp, if not let me refresh your memory. Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard were in a legal battle with each other as the latter had made allegations on the former for domestic abuse in 2018, a year after their divorce. Johnny Depp’s reputation was limited to being a wife beater and drug addict. The actor filed a defamation lawsuit on his ex-wife of $50 million. While many experts in the field of law predicted the lawsuit will backfire on him, the jury verdict said otherwise. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor won the trail and was rewarded with $15 million of damages. While the actor’s reputation is clear now, it took quite a hit after Heard’s allegations.

Disney was quick to distance itself from the actor by dropping him from the hugely successful franchise, The Pirates if the Caribbean. Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow and his portrayal of the character is believed to be the reason behind the success of the franchise. The actor sees this as the darkest chapter in his life but after the trial win there is a sense of vindication. When the trial was ongoing, the public’s interest in the happenings was massive. However, even after Depp’s convincing victory in Virginia the drama in the Heard-Depp trial was not over as the Aquaman star was trying to prove herself innocent once again. But it seems like the actor has decided to finally put her foot down as she announces that she has agreed for a settlement.

Why Did Amber Heard Settle?

Amber Heard just now posted a photo on Instagram that serves as a statement where she addresses her stand on her recent trial involving her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Heard stated that she is putting her foot down as she has agreed to settle down the result of the trial. This comes as a shock because as just weeks back there was news that after her loss in Virginia, Heard was trying to file an official appeal against her ex-husband. The case in Virginia had gained a lot of media attention where Heard was the bigger target of criticism if not vitriol.

Where a lot of revelations about her in-depth relationship with Depp were explored that portrayed her in bad light. There were petitions against her to fire her from James Wan’s Aquaman 2. Barring the trial’s result as well, the entire charade practically destroyed Heard’s reputation while it earned Depp’s back. The actor has already gained roles in upcoming films as King Louis XV and there is also news that he might be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

The statement read, “After a great deal of deliberation I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia.” Further in her statement, she continues to express how she is tired of experiencing massive public backlash while seeking justice in the form of legal action against Depp; “opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms I can agree to.”

She concludes her statement with saying (in no uncertain terms) that “I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession.” Heard Full statement read:

“After a great deal of deliberation I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia.

It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed. The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimized when they come forward. Now I finally have an opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms I can agree to t. I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession. There are not restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward.”

This is the post that Amber Heard shared on Instagram:

So, it appears that after a lot of drama throughout so many years, the Heard-Depp trial has finally came to a conclusion where Depp has emerged victorious and Heard has made her peace with this decision as has agreed to a settlement. Coming to the point of who is the victim and who the exploiter that depends on your perspective on the matter.
