Barbarian is a new horror film from 20th Century Fox that is written & directed by Zach Cregger. The film is stars Bill Skarsgard, Georgina Campbell and Justin Long. This is the premise on Wikipedia: “A young woman discovers the rental home she booked is already occupied by a stranger. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the night but soon discovers there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.” I am not telling you anything else about the film and by doing so, I’m doing you a favor. As telling you anything else about the film will be doing the film a disservice and anyone who watches the film.

All I’ll do is hype up the film for you. Basically, if you’ve been craving for a good horror film all year long because let’s face it we’ve not a gotten a decent horror film in a while, Barbarian is that horror film which is remind you that the horror genre isn’t dead. This is an extremely fresh film and its ratings reflect that. Barbarian has a 7.6/10 score on IMDb and a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 92%. After the success of the film, the writer-director of the film revealed that he is particularly interested in making a Batman Spin-Off.

Barbarian: Zach Cregger Has A Script Ready?

Barbarian Director Zach Cregger broke the exclusive in an interview with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast, “The thing I’d love to do next… I’ve actually wrote a movie that takes place in the DC Universe,” Cregger said. “Which is so not normally my thing; I’m not a superhero guy […] I just couldn’t stop thinking about this one story that kind of takes place in a Batman-adjacent thing. And so I wrote it, and I’m, like, utterly obsessed with it.”

Cregger continued, “One day — it’s not going to happen in the next two years — but one day I want to make that.” For now, the filmmaker is focusing on his next project, an untitled horror film. “I’m writing a horror [movie] right now,” he confirms. “It’s way more ambitious than Barbarian. It’s way weirder… and I don’t know if I’m gonna pull it off.” Given the sudden recognition he has gotten from this horror film it is not a long shot for him to get his hands on the famed DC character.

Cregger has proved his directorial might through this horror film. The way he has made an average film into an outright horror masterpiece beats me. If he directs a Batman spin-off which he himself has written would be phenomenal. If you’ve not checked out Barbarian in theatres please do. It is packed with a lot of fun horror, great performances, amazing cinematography, stellar, production designing and wrap it all off exceptional direction and writing. If unpredictable could be a film, it would be this film.
