If you like your romance with a side of prison breaks and high octane chaos, sit down, because Dacoit: A Love Story is officially here to take over your weekend. This pan-India action thriller is hitting theaters on April 10, 2026, and it looks like the ultimate cinematic therapy for anyone who has ever been “wronged” by an ex. Only this time, the “wronging” involves prison time instead of just being left on read.
The Plot: Romance Meets Revenge
Forget the flowers and chocolates, this movie starts with a love story and ends with a heist. Adivi Sesh plays Hari, a man who goes from being head over heels for Juliet, played by the ever-graceful Mrunal Thakur, to being stuck behind bars. Apparently, Juliet isn’t just a name from Shakespeare; she is a woman who reportedly betrays Hari and leaves him to rot in a cell.
The story follows Hari as he escapes prison to settle the score. It is a gritty tale of two former lovers reunited by a series of robberies. The director, Shaneil Deo, describes it as a story where love grows in the cracks of anger, which sounds very poetic but mostly involves a lot of people getting punched in the face.
A Cast That Actually Slays

The lineup for this film is basically an acting masterclass. You have:
- Adivi Sesh: The king of thrillers who even learned a specific Madanapalle dialect for this role.
- Mrunal Thakur: Playing the “villainous” ex who is clearly more than just a damsel in distress.
- Anurag Kashyap: Yes, the legendary director is acting again, playing Inspector Swamy.
- Prakash Raj and Atul Kulkarni: Because you canโt have a serious Indian thriller without these heavy hitters.
Fun Fact Just In Case

If you want to sound smart at the concession stand, here are some nuggets of info. The film was originally supposed to be released during the Ugadi festival in March, but it got pushed back because Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, was eating up all the screens. Adivi Sesh joked that if you can’t get tickets for the other blockbuster, you should come watch his movie instead.
This is also a major milestone for Sesh because he finally does some dance sequences. Usually, he is too busy saving the country or solving murders to bust a move, but Dacoit lets him show off some footwork alongside the gunfire.
Thoughts?
This isn’t your typical “boy meets girl, boy loses girl” story. It was filmed simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, making it a true pan-India experience. With a runtime of 2 hours and 32 minutes, it is packed with intense emotional depth, raw action, and a musical score by Bheems Ceciroleo that will probably make you want to walk in slow motion for a week.
Whether you are there for the chemistry between Sesh and Mrunal. Or, just to see Anurag Kashyap play a cop, Dacoit is promising to be the grittiest love story of 2026. Just maybe don’t take your ex as a plus one. Is it a love story? Is it a crime spree? Honestly, why choose when you can have both?
