Ghostbusters is one of the most renowned franchise in Hollywood dealing with the horror comedy genre. The success of the genre in Hollywood during the 80s-90s is often credited to the Ghostbusters films and the Evil Dead films. Even though, they’re wildly different. The visionary director Ivan Reitman was the reason behind the first and second films’ success. There was a reboot in 2016 which followed Hollywood’s woke agenda and gave us a lecture on feminism rather than delivery a fun spooky ride. Well, what was going to happen? The audience absolutely rejected it. Sony Pictures took some notes from this financial disaster and decided to go back to the previous films. Ghostbuster: Afterlife neglected the 2016 reboot as if it didn’t happen and picked up the story from the original two films.

Naturally, the audience found comfort in the film and Sony once again saw financial success and as we know where there is success, there is a sequel. Ghostbuster: Afterlife just got a sequel and it is coming out at the end of this year.

Ghostbusters 4 Sequel Announced By Sony!

CinemaCon kicked off yesterday with the first presentation coming from Sony Pictures and amongst other things the studio announced that a sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife will release at the end of this year. While there was no footage shown, the audience in attendance did get to see the new Ghostbusters team in their official flight-suits, standing with the Ecto-1 inside the iconic firehouse garage. This new look that Sony unveiled featured Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, McKena Grace and Carrie Coon as they’re the new team in the franchise.

Jason Reitman said this while announcing Kenan as the director, “A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1 and together we made Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive. I can only hope to provide him the same producorial care and support that my father showed me.”

Harold Ramis, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor, Bill Murray, Ray Stantz and Ernie Hudson.

Ghostbusters 4 is slated to release in theatre near you on 20th December 2023.
