This summer until now has been practically ruled by Barbie and Oppenheimer, apart from a brief stint by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Any other film trying to make a dent at the box office has failed. Despite this Disney is planning to release their newest remakes in theatres. Do you remember 2003’s Haunted Mansion? Probably not. The film starred Eddie Murphy and didn’t too well at the box office. This is that film’s official remake with a stand out cast and a huge budget of $157 million. The film focuses on A single mom named Gabbie who hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest and a historian to help exorcise her newly bought mansion after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts. The remake has been a recipient of better reviews than the original one but it has still gotten a Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So, with nothing working in its favor how much will the film earn at the box office in its opening weekend?

Haunted Mansion Is Struggling Against Oppenheimer And Barbie!

Variety reports that Haunted Mansion is on track to open at somewhere between $25 million and $30 million at the domestic box office. While these are not bad numbers at all, the film is still trying to catch up to Oppenheimer and Barbie. The Christopher Nolan film is all set to make $45 million over its second weekend and Barbie is projected to earn $85 million. Similar to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Disney’s latest remake also runs into the issue of trying to make back a substantial budget ($157 million).

The film costs a lot of money to produce and that doesn’t include its marketing campaign. It’ll be an uphill battle for Haunted Mansion to actually make its money back in the wake of Barbie and Oppenheimer. If a film like Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One is struggling to find an audience then how does Disney expect that Haunted Mansion becomes a box office success as it doesn’t even belong to a viable IP. Well, whatever it is, Haunted Mansion won’t set the box office on fire that is for sure.

Haunted Mansion (2023) is directed by Justin Simien and the film stars Jared Leto, Ryan Gosling, LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Jamie Lee Curtis, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson and Winona Ryder.

Haunted Mansion hits theaters on Friday, July 28 2023.
