Hot Take Johnny Depp - Amber Heard Trial Movie Gets a Trailer!

I think we’re all aware of the recent happenings in the life of Johnny Depp, if not let me refresh your memory. Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard were in a legal battle with each other as the latter had made allegations on the former for domestic abuse in 2018, a year after their divorce. Johnny Depp’s reputation was limited to being a wife beater and drug addict. The actor filed a defamation lawsuit on his ex-wife of $50 million. While many experts in the field of law predicted the lawsuit will backfire on him, the jury verdict said otherwise. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor won the trail and was rewarded with $15 million of damages. While the actor’s reputation is clear now, it took quite a hit after Heard’s allegations.

Disney was quick to distance itself from the actor by dropping him from the hugely successful franchise, The Pirates if the Caribbean. Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow and his portrayal of the character is believed to be the reason behind the success of the franchise. The actor sees this as the darkest chapter in his life but after the trial win there is a sense of vindication. When the trial was ongoing, the public’s interest in the happenings was massive. So, naturally when you have such a high profile court case in a year, there are movies that will come out based on it. That is just what happened. There is a an upcoming movie on the defamation lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard called Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial.

Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Has a Dramatic Trailer!

Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial was originally announced in early September 2022 and what was shocking was that the film was supposed to come out that very month. Given that the trial’s proceedings completed in May, I don’t know how did the filmmakers behind this project had the time to research about the case enough while also writing a script that captures the scandalous nature of this trial. The trailer released by Tubi does hint that the film will also step out of court and show glimpses of the actors’ personal lives.

Unlike the previous assumption that the film will entirely be a court room drama. The trailer is quite dramatic and the film will be definitely benefit from the fact that it is the first piece of content to cover this very recent happening. Hopefully the film will be a good adaptation of the court case and won’t cause a hate movement from fans on the internet.

Parallels star Mark Hapka and Alone in the Dark actor Megan Davis portray Depp and Heard respectively in the Hot Take trailer. The Tubi Original Movie comes from FOX Entertainment’s indie studio MarVista Entertainment and was directed by Sara Lohman from a script written by The Daily Show’s Guy Nicolucci. Station 19’s Melissa Marty and Law & Order True Crime’s Mary Carrig are also part of the film’s cast, portraying Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez and Heard’s lawyer Elaine Bredehoft, respectively.

Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial becomes available to stream for free on Tubi on Sept. 30.
