Wonka tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, a character in Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, portraying his early days as an eccentric chocolatier. The film is one of the biggest releases of the year, certainly the biggest of December. The film practically has no competition. The only other films releasing around Wonka are Disney’s Migration, DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Color Purple. Critics are in love with the film and everyone is going crazy over Timothée Chalamet’s performance. He is the most famous actor of our generation. Wonka is certain to be a box office success and we know that director Paul King has no problem returning for a sequel. Everything looks like in favor of Wonka 2, so is it going to happen?

Wonka 2 Might Be A Possibility!

Wonka’s credits offers us no hint at a possible sequel. Although, contrary to what one might say, the possibility of a follow-up movie to Wonka is quite high. Timothée Chalamet is a charming and fresh iteration of Willy Wonka, Paul King is a master of family friendly comedy and the film is expected to do amazing business. At the end of the film, we see that Wonka is constructing his factory so Wonka 2 could possibly focus on his journey ahead. It would be yet another adaptation of the source material.

Meaning the actual story of Charlie from the Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Alternatively, a sequel can also be set in the intermediate period between that and Wonka meeting Charlie. Entertainment, like any other industry, is ultimately profit-driven. If Wonka becomes successful, the filmmakers might want Chalamet to pick up the iconic hat and cane once again. The actor too seems up for it as he has expressed some thoughts on a possible sequel.

In a recent interview with ET Online, Chalamet was asked about a sequel possibility for Wonka and the actor gave us a candid answer. He said, “If there was a story to be told. And evidently there is.” He further added, “Something twisted happens … I don’t know how we started like this and end there — I don’t know what the story is.”

Wonka is directed by Paul King (Paddington, Paddington 2) and stars Timothée Chalamet in the titular role along with Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant and Sally Hawkins. Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka has released in theatres worldwide today.
