Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs the World still holds up as one of the craziest, creative, and revolutionary films ever made. While it was based on the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels written and drawn by O’Malley, its direction and editing truly made it stand out. Anyways, in 2022 Netflix announced a new anime adaptation of the novels with the exact same cast of 2010 film reprising their roles as voice artists. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Trailer and Release Date
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is all set for a release on November 17, 2023. The animation in the trailer gives an old school vibe but is absolutely stunning. For those who have read the graphic novels or seen the live-action film, not much explanation is required about the concept. It is relatively simple yet fresh as Scott asks out Ramona Flowers, the “girl of my dreams.” But in order to date her, Scott must defeat her “seven evil exes” which require a lot of varied skill sets from hand to hand combat and weapon mastery, to electric battles and dance offs.
While talking about the series, showrunner Ben David Grabinski said, “The thing that was really helpful, I think, is because the book exists and the movie exists. There was some sort of visual language that is a starting point already. I think that if you’re writing scripts that weren’t based on anything that didn’t have like pre-existing characters and designs, it might have been a very big challenge. The thing that was helpful is that [Science] SARU were experts on the books. They knew every drawing Bryan had ever done better than he knew himself, and found a way to try to translate his style into something that was more palatable for them.”
