Sex Education To End With Season 4 All We Know So Far Wallpaper

Sex Education is one the best originals to come out of Netflix’ bag and as you may know, it is a British teenage drama which follows characters from Moordale High School. This adult take on a teenage drama was an instant hit as unlike American Pie franchise, it didn’t just feature profanity, nudity and sex. Instead, it also told numerous human stories and life issues that not just young audience, but everyone could relate to. It deals with the complexities of life, relationships, sexuality, societal pressure, and of course sexual life of teenagers. So, its no wonder it struck chords within all our hearts and we all have a special little space for it in there. However, recent happenings hint that there might be some bad news for fans.

Sex Education Season 4 Might Be Its End

As you may have heard a few days back, Sex Education star Tanya Reynolds who played the fan-favorite weird girl Lily, will not be returning for season 4. That aside, Patricia Allison, who played her character’s onscreen girlfriend Ola will also not return for season 4. Both of them have had quite a journey since season 1 but fans surely weren’t ready to bid them goodbye just yet. Also, we fear that we might hear about some more actors leaving the show because of the reasons Reynolds quite articulately explained:

“I think it’s that thing when you’re playing teenagers, and the whole the root of the show is in a particular environment like a school. You have to age, you have to move on, so there is always an end in sight. It’s not like Friends for example, where it’s just following these people as they grow up and in their lives, because this is in an institution. You have to believe that there’s an end at some point. When we started we were all kind of, you know, super young, it was a lot of people’s first job, and so obviously because the show’s had so much success. There are so many other opportunities for everyone, which is so exciting.”

Whoops, we’ll let you sync that in as this is quite a discouraging statement from the actress but it is quite logical and frankly inevitable. It is quite possible that the show ends with season 4 and if not, then the next one. The primary reason is what Reynolds herself stated that all of them are grown ups and will want to play other roles. In fact, most of the cast including Asa Butterfield (Otis), Emma Mackey (Maeve), Amiee Lou Wood (Amiee), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Connor Swindells (Adam), and Kedar Williams (Jackson) are all 25 plus, with some nearing 30.

This is exactly what Reynolds said as she went on, “And we you know, it’s just the thing with the show and playing teenagers, you can’t play a teenager forever. I am 30 years old. I could not keep playing someone who’s literally half your age. Even last season they were spraying hair colour to hide my greys, and I was like ‘I’m not fooling anyone anymore!'” It is indeed quite logical and makes a lot of sense, eve if it is not something fans might want. All of them are growing up and frankly season 3 did a pretty good job wrapping things up for most of these characters.

As it happens, I myself believe that most of these characters do not have more than 1 season worth of stories left to tell before they stop being a teenager. Once that’s over, I believe it should be over as continuing their adult stories would take away the essence of the show. And at the same time, making the show focus on a bunch of new characters won’t work as well since the audience is invested in this lot. So, it would be for the best it ends with these characters itself and that too within their teenage years. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below! Till then, all we can do is wait and find out what awaits our beloved characters as they join a different school (since Moordale was shut down in Season 3 finale).
