Aquaman 2 is the last DCEU movie ever. Who cares? Who cares? No one apparently. The James Wan directorial made on a budget of more than $205 million has only managed to pocket a miserly $120.5 million in one week of its international box office run. Looks like Aquaman 2 has done what Warner Bros. long feared. The sequel has emerged as the fifth flop on a trot for DC Studios. Although, I have to admit the film has faced a better fortune than other DC nightmares. The film could’ve had a decent box office run but the bitter word of mouth has terribly affected finances. Considering all this, one has to wonder till when will Warner Bros. allow the film to have a exclusive theatrical run. The studio is known for their aggressive theatre to streaming strategy. So, when will Aquaman 2 start streaming?

Aquaman 2 Will Start Streaming Soon!

As mentioned DC has had three box office flops in 2023. As Aquaman 2 is going to be one of them, I think there is plenty of evidence available for us to predict when will the movie release online and have its streaming release date. In August, Blue Beetle hit theaters on and then became available on PVOD on September 26th, 39 days later. Here’s a look at all of the theatrical-to-online release dates from DC in 2023. Shazam! Fury of the Gods notably was available a mere three weeks after opening in theaters:

Shazam! Fury of the Gods: March 17-April 7 (21 days)
The Flash: June 16-July 18 (32 days)
Blue Beetle: August 18-September 26 (39 days)

The Flash and Blue Beetle both released online on Tuesdays just a little over a month later. Assuming Aquaman 2 keeps the 39 days window then that would place its digital release date on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024. If WB were to continue to extend its 2023 DC film’s window then another possible online release date for Aquaman 2 could be Tuesday, February 5th, 2024. The way Aquaman 2’s numbers are looking, I’m expecting it to be available online much earlier than February.

Now talking about the streaming release, this is a glance at DC’s previous theatrical-to-streaming windows this year, Blue Beetle notably expanded the window by over 20 days this fall:

Shazam! Fury of the Gods: March 17-May 23 (67 days)
The Flash: June 16-August 25 (70 days)
Blue Beetle: August 18-November 17 (91 days)

Warner Bros. will most likely adopt the 90 days streaming model since Blue Beetle followed that also because it is an industry standard. Studios like Universal and Disney use the same model. Aquaman 2’s most likely streaming release date on Max is Friday, March 22, 2024, although nothing is officially confirmed yet.

The sequel just like the original film is helmed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa in the titular role along with Yahya Abdul Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm aka Ocean Master, Amber Heard as Mera and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna.
