There has been a lot of news regarding the DCU. I don’t know what it true and what is not. Apparently as we have officially slipped into 2023 there has been a lot of movement at Warner Bros. Discovery and DC. James Gunn and Peter Safran after taking over in late 2022 announced that the new slate of DC movies would be releasing in early January 2023 and guess what we’re are here. As we’re eagerly waiting for James Gunn and Peter Safran revolutionary plan that will finally bring DC back on its track there is a lot of buzz as many actors are being kicked out while the fate of some remains a mystery. James Gunn is actually vocal about his plans but he has not given us anything that will clue us in what his vision for DC is. The back to back shake-ups at DC is definitely upsetting fans.

Mainly the return of Henry Cavill as Superman and then his subsequent firing didn’t sit well as it felt like so much for nothing. Safran and Gunn have a huge task on their hands as they have to deliver a good DC movies that appease fans as well as pulls DC out of the financial slump that it has been in for a while now. I don’t know how they’re going to do it but before the official slate is announced, here are all the updates that we’ve received from DC.

DC James Gunn Explains His Controversial Decisions!

As per a new report from Variety, there are a lot of things happening at DC. Mainly it looks like James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU won’t completely abandon the Snyderverse but rather keep the working parts and then change the other. According to the update, Aquaman, Shazam!, Blue Beetle and Gunn’s Peacemaker series would be included in the new DCU. The new plan for DC is described as, “broad but not blanket reset”

Gunn and Safran have full backing from Warner Bros. Discovery’s top execs, as they were recommended by Warner Bros. film head Michael De Luca. This means most of The Suicide Squad actors’ will stay if not all. At least Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and John Cena’s Peacemaker. The duo is not looking to change actors whose portrayals was beloved by fans. Peter Safran’s link to the Shazam! as producer also hints that Zachary Levi as Shazam! would also be unaffected by this reboot. Jason Momoa’s future is a little blur for now.

The actor will definitely be involved in the DCU in some way or the other. According to the report, it all depends on Aquaman 2’s box office performance as if the sequel does well then, Momoa will continue as the King of the Seven Oceans but if not he is already being considered for the role of Lobo. Gal Gadot will probably not be involved in this new DCU. The report doesn’t specify whether Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman won’t be involved or the character of Wonder Woman itself is not in Safran and Gunn’s plan.

We already know the fate of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne/Batman and Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent/Superman, they’re not returning. There is no update on Ray Fischer’s future but the lack of updates suggests that he too won’t be a part of this new DC Universe. When it comes to Ezra Miller that is a tricky boat. Many execs at Warner Bros. want to keep the actor as The Flash as he has done nothing troublesome since his statement to get help regarding his mental health. However, James Gunn and Peter Safran might still recast him as their policy is not to work with “a**holes”.

Blue Beetle has positive reactions at test screenings but it still has to be a box office success in order to continue under Gunn’s regime. Momoa and Miller might be the only actors from Snyder’s Justice League to make it in Safran-Gunn’s DCU. We already know that there is a Superman film coming at the start as announced by James Gunn. Although, the entire slate is not announced yet. However, it will be announced soon as promised by Gunn. James Gunn reacted to this report by Variety, when a fan asked about it on Twitter.

The DC Co-head replied candidly where he confirmed the length of their plan for the DCU but took no responsibility of Ezra Miller’s involvement in it. He once again confirmed that some part of the slate will be announced this month. Gunn replied, “I don’t know what’s out there about Ezra but our slate is 8 to 10 years (but we will only be announcing some of it this month).”

DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
