Just a few months ago, there was a lot of speculation regarding the casting of Superman: Legacy. The film was announced at the start of this year, along with other DC projects in James Gunn’s new DCU, but we had no idea who our new Man of Steel was. After a tedious casting process of more than six months, Gunn finally selected his two main leads to kick off the cinematic universe – David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Corenswet for many fans was the ideal choice to replace Henry Cavill, however, it was a close call. Nicholas Hoult was also rumored to be in the running for the part. Although, the Renfield star didn’t win the race. Well, you know how we say when god closes a door, he opens a window, that might be the perfect way to explain this news.

Nicholas Hoult Replaces Jesse Eisenberg As Lex Luthor!

Nicholas Hoult who had put his name in the running for the role of Superman in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, has been cast as Lex Luthor in the DCU. Deadline announced it for the first time that the new DC Universe has found its supervillain in the form of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Hoult will be the replacement for DCEU’s Jesse Eisenberg, whose last appearance came during Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The Menu star is the newest addition to Superman: Legacy after David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer.

Hoult also becomes the latest actor to jump into the DC Universe from the greater Marvel world, as he portrayed the younger version of Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast in four separate X-Men movies from 2011 to 2019. Casting Hoult as Luthor is definitely a foot in the right direction, as was casting Corenswet. Talking about Brosnahan, an earlier report has already told us that James Gunn was blown away by her audition for Lois Lane, so her casting doesn’t surprise me and would hopefully turn out to be great.

Superman: Legacy is the first movie in the new DC slate and is supposed to release on 11th July 2025.
