With shows like She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel intends to introduce another female superhero on Disney+. The platform has become Marvel’s home for introducing new characters and giving them their origin story. This year it treated us with Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel TV series.  The Marvel comics character Ironheart aka Riri Williams who was introduced in 2016 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, with Eve Ewing and Kevin Libranda later redesigning the character. The character has already made her MCU debut in the Phase 4 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The series recently started filming as well as added a few members to its already impressive cast. As the filming has begun we have gotten the first look of the possible villain of this series Anthony Ramos as The Hood.

When Thorne was originally cast for as Ironheart for Wakanda Forever and the Ironheart series she was nervous as she was playing a character that had some connection to the MCU darling Ironman. However, it looks like before the shoot she got a pep talk from the man himself- Robert Downey Jr.

Ironheart: Robert Downy Jr. Motivated Dominique Thorne!

According to Marvel Newcomer, Robert Downey Jr. has facetimed Thorne just Wakanda Forever was almost done with Principal photography. The actor in a recent chat with revealed her nervousness and excitement about that call. The actor said, “I wasn’t able to speak with RDJ before we got into filming or anything, but right toward the conclusion of the film, I actually had the chance to speak with him through FaceTime. A cast mate over on Ironheart had actually done a show with him and connected us, and he had some beautiful words to say about how much he believes that Riri Williams is and should always be her own person, her own thing. That this legacy is headed in the right direction and all the beautiful encouraging things that you hope to hear from the Iron Man himself.”

Thorne also talked about the Ironheart’s storyline and how true is it to the comics and the connection between Ironheart and Iron Man. The actor said, “They definitely are similar, but definitely two independent expressions of this beautiful mind,” the actor told us earlier this month. “I think the answer to that is best left to the series next year, so that’s where you’ll have to come for the truthful answer to that question.”

Thorne continued with, “I do think in Riri’s creation of this suit, or pursuing a build like that, I think that there’s an inherent acknowledgment of what Tony Stark did by creating this suit of armor,” Thorne added. “I think for someone as ambitious as Riri Williams, it’s without a doubt something that draws you in and begs your attention. As you can tell from the movie, that ambition will lead where it will lead and this time it’s led to her being in line with him by creating her very own suit of armor.”

Dominique Thorne plays the lead role of Riri Williams aka Ironheart. Good Girls star Manny Montana will feature as a series regular, probably in a negative role.  Along with him, In the Heights star Anthony Ramos as The Hood, This Is Us alum Lyric Ross and Shea Couleé. The series will be helmed by multiple directors including Sam Bailey (Dear White People) and Angela Barnes (Gillian in Georgia), they’ll collaborate with head writer Chinaka Hodge (Snowpiercer). Hodge even acted as Executive Producer to Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther.

Ironheart will start streaming on Disney+ in Late 2023.
