Spider-Man 4 is the much awaited fourth instalment of the Spider-Man franchise in the MCU. The last film – No Way Home released in theatres way back in 2021 and since then we’ve gotten nada. Before this, we got a new Spider-Man film every two years since the character’s return to Marvel in 2017. However, with the changing horizon in the landscape of superhero movies, Marvel has had many internal shifts. As the studio is evolving to persist through their downfall, a Spider-Man 4 always seems to be a viable option. However, since the film will be in collaboration with Sony Pictures, both the studios have to agree on each and everything. Well, according to a new report Sony and Marvel are once again at odds with each other.

Spider-Man 4: Will There Be A New Director?

A new report from reputed industry insider Daniel Richtman, reveals that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are once again struggling to find a middle ground on an issue regarding Spider-Man 4. Reportedly, Sony Chairman Tom Rothman wants franchise veteran Jon Watts to return and helm the film. However, Marvel President Kevin Feigi believes that the film should have a new voice in the form of a new director.

As the film is supposed to be a more grounded story, Feigi insists on having a director with some experience with such movies. The top choice for the job at the moment is Drew Goddard who is known for films like Cabin in the Woods and Bad Times at the El Royale. This is not the first time both the studios are at each others’ necks. Just last month, we got the news that Sony wishes to bring back Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire for Spider-Man 4 but Marvel doesn’t want the duo as Feigi wants to tell a more grounded story like Daredevil.

He doesn’t want to have any multiverse element. Both the issues that I mentioned, are important from the film’s development perspective. It is alarming that both the studios are fighting over such issues for Spider-Man 4.  I just hope they come to a conclusion quickly and start working on the film immediately.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently available for streaming on Sony Liv.
