The Marvels was Marvel’s last theatrical outing of 2023. The film will hold on that tag for a quite sometime now as Deadpool 3 is still many months away. As we’re all well aware, The Marvels won’t be a happy memory for Marvel. The film ever since its inception had faced many setbacks. Even after solving production issues and cajoling everyone’s ego, the final outcome of the film didn’t enjoy much success as there was already a negative narrative of the film amongst audiences. The Marvels became the lowest grossing Marvel movie ever. Made on a massive budget of $275 million ($55 million subsidy from United Kingdom), The Marvels only crawled to $206 million at the worldwide box office.

These figures are even more disappointing considering that the predecessor of The Marvels – Captain Marvel was a billion dollar venture for  the studio. The critical reception of the film didn’t add much value to it. Naturally, after a disappointing theatrical outing, the film was fastracked to a digital and streaming debut and it turns out that fans are praising the film after watching it at home.

The Marvels Is A Streaming Success!

We all knew that all the hate that The Marvels was receiving wasn’t entirely neutral or genuine. It wasn’t just about the film’s bad quality rather the intolerance of a certain section of the society to see three powerful women at the forefront of a superhero movie. This is no surprise, even She-Hulk faced this. However, I’m obligated to add that the show was truly a disgrace.

However, I don’t support the notion that a female led show shouldn’t be supported and criticized just for the sake of it. It turns out a large chunk of the audience believed the negative narrative about the film and chose not to watch it in theatres resulting in such disastrous box office numbers. However, after watching the Nia DaCosta directorial at home the fans are elated.
