In a new trailer for The Marvels, Tessa Thompson’s return as Valkyrie in Phase 5 was revealed by Marvel Studios itself. After her addition in Thor: Ragnorak, fans believed Valkyrie’s role was insufficient in Thor: Love and Thunder as the King of New Asgard. During her conflict with Gorr in the Shadow Realm, the God Butcher (Christian Bale) cruelly stabbed Valkyrie in the side. Luckily, the movie made it obvious that Valkyrie survived that wound, but it could be a way to keep her away from the last battle. At the end of Love and Thunder‘s second act, the character is shown limping around the hospital. Later, the epilogue shows her ruling over New Asgard again.
Valkyrie’s Cameo in The Marvels
In the latest The Marvels trailer, a female figure appears through the Bifrost hinting that Valkyrie will be returning in Phase 5’s latest film. Valkyrie’s return was teased earlier when a set of headshots was disclosed on the set of The Marvels. In mid-October, a look at the Bifrost was shown in a different trailer, indicating a Thor character would be appearing.
An iconic Bifrost beam of light is shown, placing someone upon a ship. After taking a better glimpse it appears to be a woman, possibly Thompson as Valkyrie. The Bifrost moment happens at the 12-second mark in this 15-second trailer for the Marvels.
With this brief trailer, the studio is hinting at a possible surprise cameo. In the same trailer, a sly X-Men reference is made, hinting that Ms. Marvel’s mutant reveal is being further explored in the film. And with Valkyrie’s possible cameo, this is another attempt at the potential release feeling like an event.
The Marvels will be in theatres on Friday, November 10.
