Taika Waititi revealed exciting news about his Star Wars film. The director-actor promised his film is going to have new characters, straying further from the well established SkyWalker saga. The news comes amidst the director trying to promote his new MCU film Thor: Love and Thunder and sat for an interview with an entertainment outlet.
Taika Waititi Comments on His Star Wars Film
According to the director-actor, his next film in the Star Wars universe is going to expand the galaxy far far away with brand new characters and plot. Taika’s comments comes after Kathleen Kennedy shared her views recently in an interview that they have to create another original saga in the universe to make new films. The director said the following words about his upcoming film:
“Look, I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it has to expand,” he tells us. “I don’t think that I’m any use in the Star Wars universe making a film where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great, well that’s the blueprints to the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.’ That all stands alone, that’s great, though I would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like it’s a very small story.”
With Taika’s views and opinion complimenting Kathleen Kennedy’s previous views on how to take forward the Star Wars franchise, it’s certain that Lucasfilm and Disney is going to take the franchise in a new direction. Taika is also not new to the Star Wars media as he previously voiced a bot in The Mandalorian series and even directed an episode in the first season of the series.

The plot of Waititi’s film is currently under wraps though it’s expected to built on the existing story arcs from the Skywalker sequel saga, while venturing into new territory with new characters. Can’t wait to see what Waititi brings to the Sci-fi saga with his quirky humor. According to Kathleen Kennedy, the film is supposed to release in 2023.
