The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4 Review – Order 66 and Mythosaur Explained

Disney Plus and Star War’s flagship show The Mandalorian is back with its highly anticipated season 3. Although the first episode kind of failed to replicate the magic of first two seasons, we are all pretty optimistic about what awaits us in the rest of the season. Thankfully Episode 2 was a solid return to form which took you back to the glory days of The Mandalorian. And while Episode 3 being good was somewhat debatable, Episode 4 was definitely a good one . Read on to catch our in-depth review of The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4 below but beware that some MAJOR SPOILERS follow below! Review Marathon – Episode 1 / Episode 2 / Episode 3.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4 – Yup, Din Djarin Is Now A Side Character

Rating – ★★★★

I know that many of you might be somewhat disappointed by this season as barring Episode 1, it seems like Din Djarin has now become a side character in his own show. While in this episode, he did kick some ass, the episode still felt more about Bo-Katan and Grogu. The episode kicked off with a cute and interesting sparring match between Grogu which ended with Vizla’s son being picked up and captured by a dragon. So, the quest of episode was pretty straightforward aka, bringing the foundling back. Even with its relatively short duration, the episode didn’t just manage to fulfil its mission, but at the same time deliver some interesting moments involving Grogu’s past and the series’ future.

This brings us to 2 major talking points of this episode aka Order 66 and  the Mythosaur. So, first of all, for those of you who haven’t seen the prequel trilogy, let us explain Order 66. I am sure you must have heard of Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker right? So, in short, Order 66 was an event where the empire ordered to execute all of the Jedi order as well as it foundlings at various Jedi temples. One such foundling/padawan was Grogu and he had to witness the death of his friends and masters at the hands of Anakin Skywalker and the imperial/republican troopers. This episode did a great job displaying how Grogu was saved by a Jedi from the events of Order 66.

Now let us move on to the Mythosaur, the creature Bo-Katan saw in episode 2 while saving Din Djarin. Mythosaurs were huge dragon like creatures found on the Outer Rim world of  Mandalore. The early Mandalorians including Mandalore the Great used to ride these fearsome creatures, before they all went extinct in the Mandalorian cataclysm. It seems like one of them survived and now resides in the Living Waters lake inside the Mines of Mandalore. Although, the armorer didn’t believe Bo-Katan but we as viewers know its there and will probably rise by the finale of the series. Mythosaur is probably the most important plot point of this season now.

Honestly, at this point we have no idea where this season is going. Din Djarin’s main objective of redemption was achieved in the second episode itself and now what remains is the re-establishment of Mandalore and Din’ training with the Dark Saber. From the looks of it, it seems like Bo-Katan might take prominence in both these major story arcs. Although, most of us can agree, we want it to be Din who rides the Mythosaur and rules the new Mandalore as after all he is the lead of the series. As for Grogu, we have no idea what more he has to offer to the series. Anyways, talking about this particular episode, there were awesome fight sequences both during the Order 66 flashback as well as the foundling’s rescue. The visuals including CGI, editing, production design, costumes as well as the fight choreography were executed brilliantly, making this episode a visual delight.

Final Verdict – The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4 is certainly not the best of the series but it is surely one of the strongest episode this season. It does a great job showcasing the past and the present events sincerely, and at the same time, establishing some future plot points and hyping fans about what’s to come. Lets hope Episode 5 continues the good work and we do not see a dip in quality like we did with Episode 1 and 3.

The first two seasons and the first 4 episodes of Season 3 of The Mandalorian are now streaming on Disney Plus. Season 3 episode 5 will air on 29th March at 12:00 AM PT.
