Dragon Ball Super Manga’s ongoing Granolah Arc began back with Chapter 67 and this week DBS debuted its Chapter 85, which still continues the saga. Fans have been calling this arc overextended and tiresome, full of multiple storylines and subplots. Well, in this Chapter everything seems to be coming together and that aside, it provided us our first look at Goku’s New transformation. While he perfected the Autonomous Ultra Instinct earlier in the mange run, neither that, nor Vegeta’s Ultra Ego was enough to defeat Gas. So, obviously, they needed a power upgrade which once again came via Goku. Read on only if you are okay with major spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter 85.
Dragon Ball Super – Goku Saiyan Ultra Instinct
A few chapters ago, Goku and Vegeta realized the true meaning of Saiyan Pride when they revisited Bardock’s past with Planet Cereal and Gas. That led Vegeta to push his new Ultra Ego form to limits and for the most of Chapter 85, we see Vegeta shedding blood and sweat in his fight against Gas. Till this point there was no doubt that Vegeta was the strongest Z fighter and had surpassed Goku, but that changed here. Once again, Goku stepped up to shield and save Vegeta, while trying his turn against Gas.
While fighting with Gas, he tapped into the Saiyan Ultra Instinct form. This form isn’t exactly a full blown new transformation, but in fact, a version of Ultra Instinct itself. However, it is nothing like Autonomous Ultra Instinct which is used by Whis, Grandmaster, and other Angels and Gods of Destruction. This new form is basically the Goku’s Saiyan pride version of Ultra Instinct. If you remember previous Chapters, Bardock unlocked a secret Saiyan power in his battle with Gas which we can refer to as Spirit of Bardock. This spirit is exactly what Goku unlocks and combines it with AUI to create his own version of Ultra Instinct.
Goku Saiyan Ultra Instinct vs Autonomous/Perfected Ultra Instinct
So, now that Goku has created his own version of Ultra Instinct, how exactly does it differ from the AUI? First of all, let us talk about the appearance. Goku’s Saiyan Ultra Instinct form isn’t silver-haired like his AUI form, but instead is black-haired just like his base form. So, yeah it seems like this time Goku got no hair dye but actually achieved a meaningful transformation.
Now talking about the nature of this new transformation, according to Goku, it allows him to put his emotions to work and harness those feelings to receive power ups. As opposed to it, Autonomous Ultra Instinct requires abandonment of emotions and a calm mind & soul to achieve the best results. However, this Saiyan Ultra Instinct allows him to use his anger, sadness, and other emotions, and put them to good use. As for power levels, it seems like Goku’s new form might be more powerful than Vegeta’s Ultra Ego as well as his own AUI form. But of course, Fully Mastered Ultra Instinct that is used by Whis, and the other angels still has no match and probably will never have a match. That is the ultimate power level someone can achieve in the multiverse and we’d really like to see Goku achieve that level of power someday.
