Harry Potter HBO Reboot Series David Yates Denies Any Involvement

If you have heard the news about a Harry Potter web series in the past few months, then yes you have heard right! Earlier in 2023, Warner Bros closed a deal for ‘Harry Potter’ HBO Max Live-Action Series! The news was first reported by Bloomberg, which suggested that the project would be directly based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book series. The untitled television series is being created by Max where J. K. Rowling set to executive producer. As per reports, it will faithfully follow the Harry Potter books over seven series, adapting one book per series, which will air over the course of a decade and will star a whole new cast. Well, today we have a rather disappointing update for the fans of the film series.

David Yates Isn’t Involved in Harry Potter Reboot Series

Harry Potter TV Series Is It Still Happening Release, Cast, All We Know

If you aren’t aware, David Yates is the director of the highly acclaimed final 4 parts of Harry Potter franchise as well as the director of Fantastic Beasts trilogy. Although, the last two FB movies haven’t exactly been well received, Yates is still a crucial part of the Wizarding World. So, fans were waiting to hear more from him about his involvement in future of the Wizarding World. Well, he came forward with two bad news. First, WB has put Fantastic Beasts 4 on a indefinite hold and second, he will not be involved in the upcoming reboot series.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Yates clearly confirmed he isn’t involved in the series and has left it behind. “I could not in any conceivable way get involved. I spent a long time at that school, those corridors and in that classroom, and it was an exquisite experience I will always treasure. But to go back and do a year or two would be… well, I feel I have left it” David Yates said. This honestly makes sense for him as he expressed his excitement for his latest film Pain Hustlers.

Moving on, he wished success to the the reboot series. “I wish that show so well. It’s gonna be amazing to see them re-explore all it can be for the next generation. It’ll be challenge for everyone involved but it is an exciting enterprise and I wish it well. It was an amazing experience for me and other filmmakers involved and I know it will be the same for the next generation of film-makers.”

The release date for the series in unknown as it has currently not even properly entered the pre-production phase. We expect the series to arrive somewhere between 2025-2026. The cast of the series would obviously be all fresh with new child actors portraying our leads. There have also been rumors of Daniel Radcliffe returning as James Potter and Tom Felton returning as Lucius Malfoy. Aside from these, Toby Woolf is being rumored to be a frontrunner as Harry Potter, Bronte Carmichael as Hermoine Granger, Joshua Pickering as Ron Weasley, Helen Mirren as Minerva McGonagall, and Adam Driver as Severus Snape. But again, take all of this with a grain of salt as so far, HBO hasn’t even found its showrunner and casting director.
