House of the Dragon Season 2 Filming Wraps + All New Cast List

House of the Dragon is the story of the war that decimated millions of people and made dragons extinct. A war for the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. A war between step siblings, one of Valyrian descent and the other of Hightower Supremacy. Adapted from A Dance with Dragons, Season 1 of the show was an overwhelming success for HBO as the series had gathered an average audience of 29 Million which was second to only Game of Thrones Season eight which had an average audience of 44-48 Million. House of the Dragon also won the Golden Globes Awards for Best Drama Series and has been nominated for tons of categories for Emmy 2023. A second season wasn’t even a question and since it was actively under development pre SAG-AFTRA strikes, we have loads of exciting new information.

Good news is that House of the Dragon Season 2 has finally wrapped its filming process with at Leavesden Studios after 5 and a half months of filming. Its first phase of filming was at Leavesden Studios in Spain, followed by second phase in Wales, third phase in Bourne Woods, and the final phase back at Leavesden Studios. Well, now it is officially over and the season has entered the post production phase. Now if you are a fan, you know how much intense CGI work in required to perfect each Dragon and other numerous fight sequences and creatures in the world of GOT.

So even though the filming has now been wrapped up we still can’t expect season 2 to arrive before mid 2024. The producers of the season shared a heartfelt message – “To the stellar crew of HOTD S2: Thank you for taking this wild journey with us, from the fiery sets of Leavesden Studios to the rain-soaked Welsh mountains and beyond. We are so proud of what we’ve made together and so grateful for all your hard work.”

House of the Dragon Season 2 All 31 Confirmed New Cast Members

House of the Dragon season 2 will have a total of 8 episodes as opposed to season 1’s ten episodes. A total of 5 directors will be working on the episodes namely – Alan Taylor (Ep 1 and 4), Clare Kilner (Ep 2 and 5), Geeta Vasant Patel (Ep 3 and 8), Andrij Parekh (Ep 6), and Loni Peristere (Ep 7). The season has been writer by Ryan Condal, David Hancock, Sara Hess, and Ti Mikkel with principle cinematography by Catherine Goldschmidt and Vanja Cernjul.

While most of the surviving characters from House of the Dragon season 1 will be a part of the new season, we will witness the rise of a few new faces as well. As for the returning characters, the most shocking news we have so far is that, leaks suggest Laenor Velayron will be making a return. Some of the new cast memebers and characters we’ll witness are as follows:

1. Simon Russell Beale as Simon Strong, the uncle of Lyonel Strong and great-uncle of Larys Strong
2. Olive Beever as Jaehaera Targaryen, the daughter of King Aegon II Targaryen and Queen Helaena Targaryen
3. Kieran Bew as Hugh Hammer, a blacksmith’s bastard from Dragonstone who was strong enough to twist steel bars with his bare hands
4. Amanda Collin as Jeyne Arryn, the head of House Arryn, Lady of the Eyrie, and Wardeness of the East during the reigns of Viserys I and Aegon II
5. Freddie Fox as Gwayne Hightower, a knight of House Hightower and the eldest son of Ser Otto Hightower
6. Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull
7. Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers
8. Robert Rhodes as Silver Denys
9. Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull
10. Mark Stobbart as Cheese
11. Sam C. Wilson as Blood
