House of the Dragon Season 2 Will Face No Delays By The Strikes

The much anticipated second instalment to the House of the Dragon series is on the cards, and everybody is excited about it. Since season 1 ended with Aegon and Rhaenyra being crowned, and the murder of Lucerys by Aemond, a Civil War is imminent. Season 1 with its return to the Westeros since GoT bid us goodbye was heavily praised, with multiple Primetime Emmy nominations for its cast.

No Delays For House of The Dragon Season 2 + Other Updates

Rhaenyra, House of The Dragon

In a controversial move, HOTD 2 continued with its production in spite of the ongoing SAG-Aftra strikes and the WGA strike. Apparently. most of the work necessary for script development was done, and the show decided to go into development without the presence of writers. On the other hand, the actors the show stars are mostly British actors who are not part of the SAG, and hence might face legal repercussions if they choose to not show up.  There will be several tragic deaths this time, with that Bread and Cheese episode which will get Rhaeynra branded as “Rhaenyra the Cruel”. The new cast members include : Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, Simon Russell Beale and Abubakar Salim will all reportedly join the cast as new integral characters.

House of The Dragons Season 2 will have eight episodes, a reduction from Season 1. However, these episodes will not all be an hour long, and director Clare Kilner hinted that the runtime can go above that in many of them as the season moves further. Kilner said about Ryan Condal, the showrunner’s decision,

“Ryan’s decision was to give it a good opening and a good ending, and they’re jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events. There are eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode, and we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour.”

The filming of the show, as George R.R. Martin had stated, was almost half done in June, and will be expected to be done by November. This would be followed by a long post-production period, because this would require immense visual effects and the creators had promised 5 more dragons, and more epic battles. According to HBO, and other websites making predictions, it could be possibly in April 2024, or anytime in the Summer of 2024.

For now, we must wait to find out what the developments of the new season will be.
