The Last of Us has been such a phenomenal success, it has already been renewed for a second season. After its debut, it was HBO’s second most watched show (22 million viewers), only behind Game of Thrones’ prequel House of the Dragon. he network also reported The Last of Us saw three consecutive weeks of audience growth to score series-high ratings with episode 4. While the ratings are one way to judge the success of the series there is more evidence that TLOU has just become a global sensation. The brilliance of Craig Mazin (Chernobyl’s creator and writer) and Neil Druckmann (creator of the game) behind the camera has really lend to a lot to the series. The show has absolutely taken over the world and there is no turning back. Season 2 of the show has been green lit and reportedly it might start shooting very quickly as well as HBO doesn’t want fans to wait for the 2nd season and capitalize on the success of the show.

The Last of Us to start shooting in 2023?

While speaking to Collider, series star Pedro Pascal talked about the amazing success of the show and the renewal. Before even the show completed its season one run, HBO renewed the show for a second season in celebration to the huge viewership numbers that the show has been consistently getting. However, when will the show return? House of the Dragon which was renewed by HBO last year just after the pilot aired is returning in mid 2024. So will The Last of Us also take a lot of time to return? Not according to Pedro Pascal.

The Last of Us lead Pedro Pascal was asked if there was a chance that Season 2 would begin shooting this year. “In the year 2023? Oh, what season are we in now? We’re getting into spring?” the actor playfully responded. However, Pascal then added, “Yes, there is a chance. Yes.”

Pedro Pascal leads the cast of The Last of Us as Joel, a smuggler hired to deliver Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, a teenager immune to the Cordyceps brain infection that has wiped out the world, to a group of survivors working to manufacture a cure. Alongside Pascal and Ramsey, the cast for HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation includes Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman and Storm Reid. The first six episode of TLOU is available for streaming on HBO Max or Disney+ Hotstar, new episodes would release every week.
