The Witcher: Henry Cavill Created A Toxic Environment, Reports Claim

The Witcher universe is now officially in damage control mode. Ever since The Witcher Season 2 ended things haven’t been going Netflix’ way. Firstly, there was a huge backlash when fans came to know writers didn’t respect the source material. Then there was the whole Henry Cavill exit debacle which literally broke the faith and interest of most of the fans. That is exactly, what we’ll be talking about today owing to the resurfacing of an old video interview of the Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich, who apparently calls Cavill annoying. So, here are the two sides of the story.

The Witcher: Henry Cavill Exit Is Not As One Sided As You Believe!

The Witcher This Is How Liam Hemsworth Will Replace Henry Cavill Without Harming The Lore

Henry Cavill as we’re all aware is a big fan of games and The Witcher happens to be one of his favorites so him himself playing Geralt was a very good thing. However, unfortunately the other factors didn’t seem to work for the show and both the seasons of The Witcher at best had mixed reviews. After playing the Geralt for three seasons, it was announced last year by Netflix that Cavill would be replaced by Liam Hemsworth from the fourth season of the show. This came to be as a big shock for all the fans as they loved Cavill as Geralt.

It is quite obvious that there were certain creative differences between the actor and the showrunners but ultimately fans paid the price. There were many theories circulating the internet since the news which includes, Henry Cavill’s reinstation as Superman at DC, Netflix’s bad treatment of the source material, etc. Netflix faced a lot of heat for this and they were literally blamed by fans across the internet. The crew of the show was also blamed as reports said that they used to insult the source material which was very dear to Cavill and the fans. However, we now have a different side to the story as well hinting that Henry Cavill was no saint himself.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich brought to the attention of fans, that is was really not that easy working with Cavill. His obsession with the IP was his undoing and aside from the showrunner we received several other such claims as well by people who worked on the Witcher, especially females. The claims accused Cavill of creating a highly toxic environment. Apparenty, Cavill used to talk in gaming lingo with “the guys”, repeatedly got into arguments with the team, excluded women from conversations (being shy), and acted unprofessionally throughout. You can find one such claim attached below and then read on.

From all this, one thing is pretty clear which is that the production environment was quite conflicted and no show can thrive is such environment. It doesn’t matter who the culprit was, but if Cavill indeed show so much unprofessionalism, it is obvious why he had to go. Being obsessed about source is fine but when you commit to a production, you need to be professional about it. As for Netflix, I think we can all agree they didn’t at all do a great job with the Witcher universe especially Witcher Season 2 and The Witcher: Blood Origin. Ultimately, the truth is what you choose to believe and our job is just to present all the sides of a story objectively.
