The hype for GTA 6 has been crazy. Even if we’ve only gotten a trailer until now it is unbelievable for someone like to me to imagine a game to have such massive fan following. However, I’ve been hearing about this gaming franchise right from my childhood to now, so I guess it makes sense. However, the film’s popularity is not limited to just nostalgia. With each new instalment, Rockstar makes sure that the game has new and improved features and narratives that are up to date with the era it has been released into. Well, it looks like Rockstar is packing really heavy this time as the file size for GTA 6 is huge!

GTA 6 File Size Will Be Massive!

An X (formerly known as Twitter) account, @SaycheeseDGTL has revealed that GTA 6 will have a file size of “just under 200 gb”. This came of as a massive surprise to the fans of the game. This is the first time a GTA 6 will be at the threshold of 200 gigabytes of storage. For reference, GTA 5 was also about 120gb, But one has to remember that it is over 10 years old.

Base GTA 5 for PC, with the graphical updates was around 50 gb. Day 1 Patch added another 5 gb. It’s the online updates that kept contributing to the size increase. Another Rockstar game – Red Dead Redemption 2 released in 2018 also has a file size of about 120 gb. Considering that I believe 200 gb is on par with the times GTA 6 is releasing in.

However, it is entirely possible that this file size might reduce till the time of release because GTA 5 was built to run on old HDDs which extract information way slowly. It is possible that Rockstar optimises GTA 6 for SSDs and maybe compress it even more. Or on the flip side, this size might be after they’ve optimised it and the original size was way higher. I just hope they reduce the loading up time. Let me know, what do you think about this. Do you think your PC will be able to sustain GTA 6?

GTA 6 doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing but it will release sometime in 2025.
