Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Next Gen Update, Everything We Know So Far

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is often considered to be one of the best games ever made as well as one of the best RPGs of all time. At the first-ever Witchercon 2021, there were many surprises for the fans of the Witcher franchise and one of them was regarding a new update for Witcher 3. It was announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition was scheduled to launch 2021 autumn, and then Q1 2022 but that didn’t happen. So, here’s all we know about it so far.

The Witcher 3 Next Gen Upgrade Is Coming Fall 2022

In October 2021, the devs took to Twitter to announce the delay in release and apologized for the inconvenience and delays. They stated that though it is causing numerous delays, they want to do it right. Owing to the production delays and recommendations of the supervisory teams, CD Projekt Red had postponed the games to the first half of 2022. Well, bad news struck again in April 2022, as CDPR has decided to delay Witcher 3 Next Gen once again and this time indefinitely. But then in the light of Witcher 3’s 7th Anniversary CDPR came up with an exciting update!

CDPR took to Twitter to announce the arrival of the much awaited update for the iconic game. “Let’s make this 7th anniversary even better, shall we? We’re delighted to share that the Next Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned to release in Q4 2022. See you on the Path, witchers!”

While they did not mention the official release date or even month, it’s best to expect it towards the end of the year, i.e., December 2022. But we haven’t heard anything about it since then and now just 4 months are left in 2022. So, it is possible that it might get further delayed to Q1 2023 but we hope for a 2022 release itself. Also, that’s not all, as they also shared the contents of the Next gen upgrade.

Witcher 3: The Wid Hunt Next Gen Content and New DLC

The Witcher Season 3 Henry Cavill Reveals Geralt's New Roach

As you may know, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition is going to roll out soon for the newer consoles, as well as PC. This would be the next gen update and would make Witcher 3 available to Play Station 5 and Xbox Series X.  The next-gen update will be free for everyone who already owns the game. Also, it would contain some fresh DLC which  will be available for every version of the game (including PS4, Xbox One, and Switch). So, here are the contents of the next gen upgrade:

  • The complete main story
  • Hearts of Stone Expansion
  • Blood and Wine Expansion
  • Alternate looks for Yeneffer, Ciri, and Gwent card packs and all 16 DLC released in 2015
  • All Other Patches
  • Netflix Inspired New DLC

The new DLC for Witcher 3 will revolve around the Netflix series version. The Netflix version which features Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia aka The Witcher is mainly based on books but has many similarities to the games. It will not be a full on expansion like Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine, instead it is described as extra items. So, we can expect the addition is a new skin for Geralt. This will make him resemble his Netflix actor Henry Cavill. It can also be a set of armor based on what he wears in the show. One thing which fans constantly demanded was for CD Projekt Red to add the song “Toss A Coin to Your Witcher” to Witcher 3. So, there’s a possibility that the DLC includes your favorite song from your favorite bard.
