The Witcher 3 The Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past Expansion Announced for 2027, New System Requirements Revealed

More than a decade after its original release, CD PROJEKT RED has officially announced a brand-new expansion for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. Titled Songs of the Past, the expansion will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The announcement marks the third major expansion for the critically acclaimed RPG following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

According to CD PROJEKT RED, the expansion will once again place players in the role of Geralt of Rivia for an entirely new adventure. The studio is co-developing the project alongside Fool’s Theory, a team made up of several developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3. The studio confirmed that more details regarding Songs of the Past will be shared in late summer 2026.

CD PROJEKT RED also stated that the reveal was initially planned for an upcoming REDstreams presentation before information unexpectedly surfaced early on RED Launcher.

New Minimum System Requirements Revealed

Alongside the expansion announcement, CD PROJEKT RED also confirmed updated minimum PC requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. These changes will become effective starting with the next game update. The new minimum requirements are:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i5-8400
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 / AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
  • VRAM: 6 GB
  • RAM: 12 GB

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 11

The updated requirements appear to prepare the game for future support, compatibility improvements, and upcoming content additions tied to the new expansion. You can check out full requirements here.

Why Fans Believe This Expansion Matters

While CD PROJEKT RED has not officially connected Songs of the Past to the next mainline Witcher title, many fans already expect the expansion to serve as a narrative and thematic bridge between The Witcher 3 and the upcoming The Witcher 4, which is currently expected sometime around 2028.

The return of Geralt after all these years has already reignited excitement across the fanbase, especially considering The Witcher 3 has sold over 60 million copies and remains one of the most celebrated RPGs ever made. For now, however, CD PROJEKT RED has only officially confirmed the expansion itself, Geralt’s return, the platforms, and the updated PC requirements.
