The classic adventure franchise of the 80’s is back once again with Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones for the fifth sequel and James Mangold of Logan (2017) fame directing the project. The film is currently scheduled to release on June 30, 2023 and the first-look image of Ford in the title role just released few hours ago along with the release date announcement. The filming concluded recently in February, 2022 and Ford plays the title role at 78 years of age.

Indiana Jones 5 Plot & Theories
The plot of Indiana Jones 5 is currently under wraps but official sources state the film takes place around 1969 and Ford’s character of Indiana Jones will pass the torch to some younger protagonist to continue the spirit of adventure and lead further movies in the franchise. This film is reportedly a goodbye to Ford as Indiana Jones while introducing new characters and also might not include the Nazis as the cartoonish villains who were the main antagonists in past films. Apart from Ford, the ensemble cast consists of Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Ren’ee Wilson and Antonio Banderas.
The franchise is first conceived as the brain child of George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars. The first film titled Raiders of the Lost Ark, directed by Steven Spielberg released on June 12, 1981, became a critical and box office hit. Spielberg returned to direct three more sequels in the franchise and also initially considered to helm the fifth sequel before dropping the idea in favor of giving opportunity to a new director with a fresh perspective on the franchise. Spielberg though is still attached as producer on the fifth film. Lucas who worked extensively on the story of previous Indiana Jones films is not involved in this project, but Lucasfilm, which is acquired by Disney and previously owns the franchise, is still actively involved in making this fifth film.
