Indiana Jones 5 against all odds looks amazing. The recent TV spot of course didn’t reveal anything new plot wise, but does raise the question about Mads Mikkelsen’s villain. Has he appeared in other Indiana Jones’ film before? I don’t remember but Indy certainly does remember him as he asks him a question about is he still a Nazi or not. We see the old Indy kicking ass and we get more scenes where we see the de-aged Harrison Ford and it is done so well. The action set pieces that the TV spot teases look very exciting as well. The TV spot does make me more excited for the film and moves it further up on my list of most anticipated movies of 2023. That being said there is another reason to get excited about the Dial of Destiny, it is the longest movie in the history of the Indiana Jones franchise.

Indiana Jones 5 Is The Longest Indy Film Yet!

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared an important titbit of information while speaking with Collider. She revealed that the Dial of Destiny will be the longest Indiana Jones ever,“It’s around 2 hours and 22-23 minutes, because runtime seems to be a hot topic. I will say that the early movies were shorter. They were under two [hours] 15 [minutes]. And we talked about that quite a bit, so now I see why maybe they’re interested in it. But as you know, with runtime, it’s all about how you feel, right?”

Kennedy further talked about how this elongated runtime is similar to the long form storytelling style that we have in the streaming space, “The reason this is interesting is because long-form storytelling is something that we like in the streaming space. So, I think it might be that it’s some kind of carry-over from that. But God knows, this year there were so many three-hour-plus movies that I felt I wasn’t getting any work done, trying to see them.”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has a runtime of 2 hours and 23 minutes which easily makes it the longest Indy film yet surpassing the previous longest- 1998’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade which had a runtime of 2 hours and 8 minutes.

The full list of runtimes from the previous Indiana Jones movies can be seen below:

  • Raiders of the Lost Ark – 115 minutes (1 hour, 55 mins)
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom – 118 minutes (1 hour, 58 mins)
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – 128 minutes (2 hours, 8 mins)
  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – 122 minutes (2 hours, 2 mins)

This news comes to us around the same time when we have been hearing rumors of Indiana Jones 5 being the costliest film ever to be produced by Lucasfilm. Bearing a pricetag of $294.7 million. The Dial of Destiny is scheduled to release on 30th June 2023.
