The Northman is a 2022 American epic historical film directed by Robert Eggers and co-written by Eggers and Sjón. It is based on the legend of Amlethadn stars Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe. As the title suggests, it is a Viking tale and its plot is awfully similar to The Last Kingdom with Alexander Skarsgård’s Amleth in lead. The opened to rave reviews and ratings but failed to perform at box office. But the fact remain that it is a brilliant film which you must check out as soon as possible. And that is what this article is all about.
The Northman Blu-Ray and Digital Release and Exclusive Content
The good news is that, The Northman will be available for digital purchase on June 6, which is barely a week away now. Alongside that, its 4K Ultra HD Collector’s Edition, Blu-ray Collector’s Edition, and DVD available on June 7, the very next day, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The digital, 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD will include the following:
- The Full Movie, obviously
- Nine deleted and extended scenes
- Exclusive behind-the-scenes content
- BTS on how the filmmakers and cast immersed themselves in Norse history
- Commentary by Roger Eggers
- In-depth discussions on the characters by the cast and the director
The Northman’s Collector’s Edition will feature even more exclusive content, including even more bonus features like Amleth’s Journey To Manhood, Shooting The Raid, Knattleikr Game, and A Norse Landscape.
Northman’s Streaming and Home Release
The Northman is available for streaming at home but as of now its available under the VOD (Video on Demand) model. It first became available to stream this way on 13th May and costs around $20 for monthly rental and $25 for purchase. It is available via VOD on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, Youtube, Vudu, Microsoft, Redbox, Direct TV, Spectrum, Alamo, and AMC Theatres.
As for the subscription based streaming, it is expected to release on Universal’s streaming service, Peacock, at some point soon after the Blu-Ray release. It might also come out of Amazon PrimeVideo later this year.
