Loki Season 2 Episode 5 Review and Ending Explained

Loki Season 2 has somehow managed to be the best MCU Disney Plus production since Loki Season 1 itself. After failure of MCU’s past 2 TV Series as well as the atrocity known as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a lot was riding on this season. Therefore, it’s really good to report that Loki has only improved its quality as stands high as the flagship MCU D+ series so far. The first 4 episodes managed to be visually captivating, showcase gripping subplots, and establish a grander narrative. Episode 5 carries on the good work of the series so far and is quite possibly the best episode this season so far. Read on to find out our in-depth review but beware that SPOLERS follow from this point on.

Loki – The Master of Time and Space!

Rating – ★★★★1/2

Being as good as season 1 is no small feat to achieve in the current MCU landscape. In the past few productions, MCU has managed to ruin Thor, Ant-Man, Hulk, Nick Fury, Daredevil, and many other beloved characters, hence, everyone was bracing themselves for another disappointment. However, Loki Season 2 has managed to stand tall among the rest of MCU mediocrity. The credit for this season so far goes to the writing team, VFX and editing team, and most of all to the actors! The trio of Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Owen Wilson (Mobius), and Ke Huy Quan (OB) have managed to sell each and every sequence and dialogue and Sophia Di Martino’s Slyvie is a cherry on top.

Hiddleston especially, seemed to have worked on this season with utmost passion and hence, every second he’s on screen, Loki is at its absolute finest. In a media environment where the main protagonists are getting increasingly forgettable and side-lined, Hiddleston as Loki completely owns the show. Not just that, he has received a significant upgrade in this episode, making him one of the most powerful characters in MCU continuity. As suggested by OB, he has now learned to control his time slipping basically making himself the master of space and time. Unless he loses these powers by the end of the series, he’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with in the multi-versal war.

While much of this episode was spent gathering the forces, it was the ending which made fans completely lose their minds! Just when we see Loki finally coming to terms with things being better this way, all hell breaks lose. We see entire realities disorient and turn into spaghetti reminding viewers of the end of Avengers: Infinity War. As Mobius, OB, Sylvie and the others start to disorient as well, Loki finally unlocks the ability to control his time-slipping in a moment of desperation. He time-slips back a few moments ago to reveal he’s mastered time slipping to OB and reassures everyone that he can stop this once and for all. In the final shot, we see his time slip to the moment when Temporal Loom is about to melt away.

That’s basically what the ending was all about. In one final attempt, it is now Loki with his mastered time-slipping ability vs the collapsing multiverse. How exactly he plans on stopping the temporal loom from melting is yet to be seen. Maybe he can just take the device, and time slip further back to a past when the Loom was a bit more stable and didn’t turn you into spaghetti like what happened to the Victor Timely Variant. Talking about technicalities, the episode featured brilliant VFX, flawless camerawork and editing, magnificent set designs, detailed costumes, and a banger score. The opening and closing titles of the series remain the same as season 1 ’cause if it’s not broken, there’s no need to fix it. Finally, the overall tone and vibe of the season seems as charming and glorious as the previous season as well.

Final Verdict – Loki Season 2 Episode 5 is not only a great episode, but probably the best of this season. It does a great job with Loki’s character development and sets up an explosive and mind-bending finale. Also, it seems like the finale would quite unlike the usual Marvel action and CGI heavy finales. So, let us hope the series ends on a high next week!
