Ahsoka Episode 4 Review + Ending Explained - Anakin and World Beyond Worlds

Ahsoka is probably the biggest Star Wars live action project after The Mandalorian Season 3, which was a bit disappointing and inconsistent. Anyways, fans are really excited to see what Mando-verse has in store for them next and how the events of Ahsoka will tie into the bigger Mandalorian universe. The first three episodes of Ahsoka were certainly not the best but they did a decent job setting the tone and the premise of the series. Episode 4, however, pumped up the stakes and featured some of the best action sequences in Star Wars and a twisted ending, which we will try and explain below. So, read on to catch our verdict on Ahsoka Episode 4 but beware that major spoilers follow below!

Ahsoka Episode 4 Review – Best of the Series So Far

HOC Rating – ★★★★

Hopes were high for this episode after 3 episodes of tremendous build-up and it is safe to say that Ahsoka Episode 4 paid off big time. The episode wasted little to no time to get down to business and was action packed from start to finish. What’s a greater accomplishment is the fact that even after so much action, all the sequences were absolutely flawless and really well performed. The cinematography, color palette, and the production design of the episode helped in elevating it to new heights and really did a huge favor to the tone of the series.

What’s great about this episode is the fact that it genuinely surprised the audience with some of its choices. One of the most unexpected moment of the episode and the series overall came when Sabine agreed to hand over the map to Skoll. Fans certainly did not see that coming and it was a gutsy move on the part of the creators. Not only did that result in the plot not going our heroes’ way but it also made Sabine a complex and interesting character. Talking about interesting characters, late Ray Stevenson delivered a terrific performance as Skoll, who proved to be a fearsome opponent by besting Ahsoka in a duel.

But nothing can be perfect, hence the seemingly uninteresting character of Shin comes into play. She basically is the femme fatale of this show and that too with a really bland and mediocre performance at best. Although, all the action sequences featuring Shin were pretty badass, she doesn’t at all make up for a compelling antagonist and is actually holding the show back. Another such character who has failed to impress us is Hera, who’s entire role in the series so far has been a lackluster. Finally, Ahsoka herself has been quite uninteresting and under-motivated the entire season and so far, hasn’t received any character growth. Although, Rosarie Dawson has done a tremendous job with character to life, in the 4 episodes so far the script hasn’t done her any favours.

But all this might change in the upcoming episodes and that brings us to the ending of Ahsoka Episode 4. The episode ended with our protagonists terribly failing in their quest as Sabine has been made a captive, Morgan has succeeded in her mission to find Thrawn’s co-ordinates, Hera has failed to stop their ship, and Ahsoka has somehow ended up at world between worlds. Among all the things that happened in the final 10 minutes, Ahsoka’s fate is the most interesting one and has launched a thousands questions and speculations among fans’ heads. So here’s what it is about.

Yes, the place where Ahsoka ended up is world between worlds but how is it possible? Falling from that cliff couldn’t have possibly teleported here there, so there is a high chance that it’s happening inside her head. The World Between Worlds, also known as the Vergence Scatter, is a mystical plane within the Force that serves as a collection of doors and pathways existing between time and space. Ahsoka has previously been here during Star War: Rebels and time doesn’t work in a linear way within this realm. Hence, Ahsoka sees Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, aka her former Jedi master. This is of course a projection of Anakin either happening inside Ahsoka’s mind or actually taking place at the Vergence Scatter (in case Ahsoka actually teleported there). Rest remains to be seen as Episode 5 is probably set to change Star Wars forever!

Final Verdict – Ahsoka Episode 4 does a great job in paying off the build-up done by previous episodes, however, it does have its flaws. But ultimately, it manages to fulfil our expectations and really hype us up for what’s to come! It was certainly the best Star Wars episode since Andor, so kudos to the team.

Ahsoka episode 5 will debut on September 13 only on Disney Plus!
