Episode 5 does a tremendous job following the premise established by Episode 4 and takes the show to colossal heights, making it the best Star Wars episode since Andor. Ahsoka Episode 5 Review – Anakin, Space Whales, and Captain Rex to the Rescue

HOC Rating – ★★★★1/2

Star Wars has definitely upped its live action game as after Andor and The Mandalorian, Ahsoka is quickly turning out to be one of the best Star Wars productions ever made. While episode 4 was pretty awesome in its own way, this episode rewards the fans of Star Wars animation and ends on such a beautiful and serene note, that viewers are left rooting for more. From Ahsoka’s dream sequence with Anakin to communicating with purrgils (space whales), the episode is packed with back to back incredible moments.

Right from the opening, the episode gets you hooked and makes you stay with it till the end. Hayden Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin was simply a delight to watch and the way they utilized his extended cameo was worthy of all your appreciation. Instead of just adding him for the sake of adding him, Filoni actually found a way to make his cameo meaningful as he grants Ahsoka some valuable lesson. Alongside Ahsoka herself, we are taken on a short journey to her past where we see glimpses of The Clone Wars, The Siege of Mandalore, as well as Ahsoka’s battle with Anakin/Darth Vader. That also reminds us to mention and appreciate the brilliant transitions which made Hayden Christensen glitch between Anakin and Darth Vader throughout Ahsoka’s vision.

Moving on, we also saw a split second cameo from Captain Rex, marking his Star Wars live action debut. Although we just hear his voice, it is quite enough to get fans hyped. As opposed to leaks and much to our relief, there were no alternate timelines or realities showcased in the episode. The last thing pop culture needs right now is another multiverse, and I personally, was really happy with the way this episode turned out. It did not waste a lot of time in the dream sequence and quickly came back to the main narrative after inspiring some clarity in Ahsoka. Honestly, after this episode, Ahsoka finally became an interesting character, which somehow she wasn’t till episode 4 in her own show. Also, Jacen proved to be another interesting character this episode as he clearly has a strong connection with the force.

Now let us talk about Purrgils for a moment. Although the episode featured a lot of great moments, the sequences with Purrgils were simply the best and most beautiful. From everyone being captivated by their presence, to Ahsoka interacting with them and asking their help to locate Thrawn, every shot involving Purrgils was the best of Star Wars live-action. Aside from the concept and spell-binding visuals, the score during these sequences was so serene that you can’t help being absolutely mesmerized. In fact, the score was off the charts throughout the episode from the very first shot to very the last credit that rolled away. Credit where credit is due,  every Disney Plus Star Wars show has had a brilliant score so far and Kevin Kiner takes this trend forward in Ahsoka.

Final Verdict – Ahsoka Episode 5 has proven once again that Star Wars isn’t done yet and that if Disney backs their projects for more than 6 episodes, they have the potential to deliver top quality content. With mesmerising music, astounding visuals, a couple of exciting cameos, and a new found clarity by the protagonist, Ahsoka episode 5 is a sheer delight to watch!

Ahsoka Episode 6 will debut on September 20 only on Disney Plus!
