Ahsoka Episode 6 Review Thrawn and Ezra Return Without A Bang

At long last! If you have seen Ashoka episode 6, you probably know what this is about. Ahsoka has been on a roll since Episode 4 which pumped up the stakes and featured some of the best action sequences in Star Wars. Then Episode 5 did a tremendous job following the premise established by Episode 4 and took the show to colossal heights, making it the best Star Wars episode since Andor. Now Episode 6 comes with a massive payoff for the fans but it ends up being rather dull compared to the preceding episodes. So, read on to catch our verdict on Ahsoka Episode 6 but beware that major spoilers follow below!

Ahsoka Episode 6 Doesn’t Fully Embrace Thrawn and Ezra’s Return

HOC Rating – ★★★1/2

Obviously, the highlight of this episode was going to be the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn as well as Ezra Bridger. But when that becomes the only thing that happens throughout the episode, the overall product ends up being a lackluster. Especially, considering how well executed and directed the previous two episodes were. Ahsoka gets the Boba Fett treatment in this episode and never appears after the opening 2 minutes, but we can accept that considering the grander scheme of things. What really holds the episode back is that out of all the ways they could have introduced Ezra, they chose the dullest and most convenient way possible.

For an episode which only focused on Thrawn and Ezra’s return, it failed to properly explain how they survived for so long in a galaxy far far away. However, it sure had its moments. First of all, even though Ahsoka had just a single scene this episode, it turned out to be quite impactful. Her conversation with Huyang was quite meaningful, insightful, and the best written moment of the episode. Moving on, late Ray Stevenson delivered a terrific performance this episode as Baylan Skoll who was reminiscing the old days with Shin. It might actually be the best performance we see throughout the series and after 6 episodes, Skoll has finally became a root-worthy character.

Compared to Ezra, Thrawn certainly had a better crafted return but it certainly didn’t give “final boss” vibes. However, Thrawn quickly proved his authority, wits, and evility within his limited screentime. There was also a short action sequence between Sabine and the bandits which sure was well executed but just felt like an excuse to add action to the overall dull episode. Aside from this, there is absolutely nothing left to discuss this episode. Oh wait, the Dark Mothers! Sharing awful lot of similarities with the Sisterhood from Dune saga, they sure seemed interesting and might have a larger role to play in future.

Let us talk about the technicalities for a moment. The CGI was quite flawless, the cinematography was beautiful, the scoring was as good as previous episodes, and the production design and make up was perfect as well. So, it check all boxes in the technical department maintaining its quality as a visual spectacle.

Final Verdict – While this episode didn’t have much to offer, the stage is set for the final two episodes to wreck havoc among the fandom and set the internet on fire. The series alongside, the Mando-verse has a lot of potential and fans are all hoping Star Wars fully realises this and give us a saga to remember for decades to come.

Ahsoka Episode 7 will debut on September 27 only on Disney Plus!
