Ahsoka Tano is one of the most important Star Wars characters. Her life has been a roller coaster, to say the least. Ahsoka’s Disney+ series is the continuation of her journey in the galaxy far away during the post-Return of the Jedi era. Even though her current self seems stronger than ever, that wasn’t the case always. The past projects have featured her death but she always keeps coming back.

How Did Ahsoka Tano Die?

Ahsoka Tano died on screen twice before. However, the demise is more intricate than it sounds as she was resurrected and is still a part of Star Wars. Her character first died in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Around Episodes 15-17 of Season 3, during Mortis’s arc, Ahsoka was killed by a powerful dark character Son. Her death specifically took place in episode 16 titled “Altar of Mortis.” It happened after Son possessed her and Ahsoka aided him in retrieving a dagger for him to use. Son stated that he doesn’t need her anymore, and took Ahsoka’s life force by touching her.

The second time Ahsoka Tano was killed in the animated show Star Wars Rebels. It happened in the finale of Season 2 “Twilight of the Apprentice” on the planet Malachor. Ezra Bridger found Sith Holocron and placed it at the top of the temple underneath the planet’s surface. The entire structure turned into a bomb. While Ezra, Ahsoka, and Kanan were trying to escape, Darth Vader was trying to prevent them from leaving. Eventually, Ahsoka locked herself and Vader inside the temple to allow Ezra and Kanan to get away. The temple exploded with both Ahsoka and Vader locked up in the temple.

The Resurrection of Tano

After Ahsoka was killed by Son, Obi-Wan and Anakin were ready to save her by any means. However, they couldn’t save her. Father, another powerful character in Mortis is a quintessence of the balance of the Force. He was able to take the Daughter’s life force and give it to Ahsoka’s dead body. The Daughter was on the verge of taking her last breath as she was stabbed earlier. She requested Father to use her life force to resurrect Ahsoka.

After the duel with Darth Vader, Ahsoka died and she was absent in Season 3 and the majority of Season 4. In episode 13 of Season 4, Ahsoka’s life was resurrected. Ezra used the realm of World Between Worlds and brought her back to life. Darth Sidious explains World Between Worlds in Rebels  as a “mystical realm” that “connects all of time and space, creating a conduit between the living and the dead.” Ezra was able to use one of the portals in this realm and travel through times to the moment when Ahsoka was dueling with Vader. Ezra managed to take her out of Vader’s grasp and they escaped the temple. Both of them returned to the normal galaxy allowing Ahsoka to continue her journey.
