House of the Dragon Episode 3 Preview Hypes A Big Battle!

House of the Dragon Episode 2 premiered today on HBO Max and Disney+ Hotstar. Now that I mention it, check out our review of it. Episode 2 of the GOT prequel was amazing. It took the simple premise of King Viserys I having to choose between his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen and his brother Daemon Targaryen as his heir to the Iron Throne to much more deeper and complicated level. The prequel set 172 years before our Mother of Dragons- Daenerys Targaryen had a lot of stuff going for it in its second episode. Many things set up in the pilot are being explored and continued very well. The episode had 4 major highlights. The first one of course being the show getting its new opening title sequence. It has is visually different than Game of Thrones however, they use the GOT theme.

A perfect combination of nostalgia and originality. The second was when Rhaenyra flew up from the clouds on Syrax’s back and got the egg from Daemon. The third was King Viserys I choosing Alicent Hightower as his new wife over Lady Laena Velaryon and the final one being Lord Corlys Velaryon forming an alliance with the rogue prince Daemon Targaryen. As much as I loved episode 2, it looks like the best of House of the Dragon is ahead of us. House of the Dragon’s episode 3’s trailer is out and if anything it suggests a war is afoot.

House of the Dragon Episode 3: Daemon and Corlys fight the Crabfeeders?

The last shot of episode 2 indicated that Daemon has waged war against the Crabfeeders who are funded by the Free cities. Daemon did this to respect Corlys’ offer to join forces. It looks like episode 3 is going to pick up exactly from there. However, the trailer of episode 3 reveals much more than this. The trailer confirms the birth of Viserys’ first male heir’s birth from Alicent- Aegon. This will certainly jeopardize Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne. Her being the announced the heir might also be dissolved.

The trailer further confirms that Daemon and Corlys are working together and fighting the Step Stones. Daemon’s dragon is spitting fire on anything that moves. This reminded me of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4- Spoils of War. We all remember the terror of Daenerys on Drogon. We know how he annihilated an entire to cinders in minutes. It feels like we’re about to witness something similar. There is one weird detail in the trailer that cannot be ignore. For some unknown reason Rhaenyra also seems to be part of some war.

We can assume based on Aegon’s birth that third episode will take another leap of 9 months or so. The conflict between Rhaenyra and Viserys is also hinted at. Rhaenyra losing all faith in her close and going rogue is featured in the trailer. The interesting thing to note is right after that we’ve brief shot Rhaenyra in a stony environment where she is being startled by something. Of what I can make out it looks like a dragon and based on all the information we’re getting about Vaghar, it being Vaghar seems like a good possibility.

The first time we heard about Vaghar is when Alicent mentions Rhaenyra about her in comparison to Syrax. The second time was when Viserys acknowledged that Vaghar is alive and is nesting in the world somewhere. There was definitely one huge dragon in official trailer of House of the Dragon, so far we haven’t seen it yet. Vaghar is definitely one of the biggest GOT dragons. Vaghar finding Rhaenyra and choosing her as her rider would be an amazing moment.

I’m not sure whether that’ll happen in the next episode or in one of the upcoming episodes but I think it is definitely going to happen. Alicent and Rhaenyra’s friendship has definitely turned sour. I predict that Daemon’s attack on the Step Stones will bear repercussions and that will drag Rhaenyra and Viserys into the battlefield where Rhaenyra will once again be belittled until she snaps and decides to take off. Needless to say, episode 3 of House of the Dragon is looking extremely exciting.
