Netflix has announced that the two-time Oscar winner Andrew Stanton and four-time Emmy nominee Jeremy Podeswa will be joining their prestigious Sci-fi drama project – The Three Body Problem. The show, created by D&D after their critically panned Season 8 and conclusion of Game Of thrones, is based on the novel of the same name by Chinese sci-fi writer Liu Cixin and is currently in production. Earlier, another director Derek Tsang was also signed to direct multiple episodes.

The Three-Body Problem Premise & Cast

The writing team of the show consists of David Benioff, D.B.Weiss, and Alexander Woo, who are also set to be the executive producers of the series. Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman were also attached to produce the show.

The official premise of Three-Body Problem is as follows.

“Set against the backdrop of China’s Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space to establish contact with aliens. An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, different camps start forming, planning to either welcome the superior beings and help them take over a world seen as corrupt or to fight against the invasion. The result is a science fiction masterpiece of enormous scope and vision.”

The cast includes Eliza Gonzalez, Benedict Wong, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Jonathan Pryce, Rosalind Chao, Ben Schnetzer, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani and Eve Ridley.

Film-maker Jeremy Podeswa is known for his work on Game of Thrones, as he helmed six episodes of the fantasy epic for HBO alongside Benioff & Weiss. Andrew Stranton on the other hand, is well known for his Pixar animated films like Wall-E, Monsters, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story Franchise.
