Zack Snyder genuinely loves creating a grand saga of epic sci-fi storytelling. Whatever little we know about Rebel Moon, I have to say it looks truly glorious. This might be the grandest Zack Snyder film ever. It is a shame that we won’t be able to see the spectacle on the big screen as Snyder is making in collaboration with Netflix. The US and some other places might get a limited release in select theatres but if you live in India like me, then forget about seeing it. Snyder is not only directing the film but has also taken some writing responsibility as he is co-writing the screenplay of Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. The film is also based on Kurt’s original story. The film’s cast includes Djimon Hounsou, Sofia Boutella, Ray Fisher and Ed Skrein.

Rebel Moon has a more extended cast which we don’t have clear updates on. The film has been in the works for a very long time and if you know despite having long runtimes, Snyder films always have a director’s cut. Rebel Moon doesn’t break that trend. So, how long exactly is it, in comparison to the Netflix version?

Rebel Moon’s Director’s Cut Is So Much More Longer!

In a recent interview Entertainment Weekly, director Zack Snyder revealed the major differences between the PG-13 (The reason for this mature rating is “Rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, sexual assault, bloody images, language, sexual material and partial nudity version) Netflix version of Rebel Moon and the R-rated director’s cut. These changes are poised to be even more extensive than the director’s cuts for Snyder’s previous films. Read his full statement below:

“I’m super proud of the PG-13 version, the broader audience version, because I would say it really satisfies an awesome, timeless, mythological scope. What we’ve done with the other version is fun and subversive because an R-rated sci-fi movie at this scale shouldn’t exist. It’s a full hour longer. It’s not just slightly different or a little bit more. There are big chunks of the movie that are different.”

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon will release in two parts. Part 1 – The Child of Fire will debut on Netflix on 22nd December 2023 and Part 2 – The Scargiver will release on April 19th 2024.
