Last month, during New York Comic-Con, a brand-new Dragon Ball series was announced. The Dragon Ball fans are bewildered by the unusual premise of the series which revolves around the Z fighters and their companions being turned into children. On November 16, an alleged list of the staff members dropped on Twitter, revealing the series director, screenwriter, and more. Upon Toei’s recent confirmation of the same staff members, fans breathed a collective sigh of relief. A new video from DBHype kindled hopes that DAIMA will follow in the footsteps of the original manga and anime.

All We Know About Dragon Ball DAIMA

DAIMA promises to be “A story never before told in Dragon Ball”. We can assume the upcoming anime will set itself apart and offer the fans something different from Dragon Ball GT. The upcoming anime will take place before the events of Dragon Ball Super, however, after Goku and Vegeta’s defeat of Kid Buu at the end of Dragon Ball Z. The teaser shows Supreme Kai Shin and Kibito as individuals instead of in their Potara Fusion form, Kibito Kai. We still don’t know if DAIMA will canonically affect the events of Dragon Ball Super‘s next arcs. However, the potential series will possibly be a spin-off that’s not tied down to the series’ bigger narrative.

Toei Animation Latin America’s Licensing Director Daniel Castaneda revealed in an interview with Produ that Dragon Ball DAIMA will include 20 episodes and air in October 2023. Castaneda also revealed that it would be released both dubbed and subbed worldwide in multiplayer languages. However, the interview has since been deleted.

The new anime will possibly air on TV as Dragon Ball Super did and then become available on Funimation and Crunchyroll shortly after. The release of the English version of Dragon Ball DAIMA has yet to be confirmed. However, the series will be dubbed and the beloved voice actors are expected to return.

Dragon Ball DAIMA’s current release date is slated for Fall 2024.
