May 18, 2024

Hey guys, hope you all had a wonderful 2022. It’s that time of the year again. I’m here to sift out all the waste that we’ve gotten this year. I’ve done my Best Movies list that means I also have to do the Worst Movies. Just remember there are no mistakes, simply happy accidents. Although, we know the truth. A few things to remember before we begin, a lot of the rules that said for my Best Movies list apply to this one as well namely, I have not seen every movie that came out this year. No one can. So, this list would be the worst from the movies that I’ve seen. Also, no one willingly walks into a bad film. I consciously avoided, some of the films because I was like, that looks like torture. Why would I willing submit myself to it? Therefore, most of these movies are biggest disappointments of the year which lay waste to the expectations of the viewers.

These would not be reviews, I’ll simply talk briefly about the film and move on, so if you want an in-depth analysis or full review they’re available on the website. To wrap up, this is my list which you may not necessarily agree with, you might even find some movies that you consider good and that’s okay because we all will have a different list. So, without wasting anymore time let’s expose ourselves to the most disappointing films that this year had to offer.

7) The Black Phone

The Black Phone (review here) is the most controversial addition to this list. I know this will definitely be controversial one as many people would disagree but simply told this Scott Derrickson film doesn’t live up to his name. The film is all talk no show. Black Phone doesn’t explain the rules of the world that it is set in. There is an element of magic in a survival thriller, however, there is no explanation to it. The film had all the ingredients for one of the best films of the year but it was wasted. A talent like Ethan Hawke is not severely underused.

6) Spiderhead

Netflix' Spiderhead Trailer Released, Chris Hemsworth Flexes His Range

Spiderhead (review here) was another film that I was excited about and it featured Miles Teller and Chris Hemsworth. I don’t need to tell you about Hemsworth, I was excited to see him in a new light. We’ve seen what Miles Teller can do in Whiplash and Top Gun: Maverick. Talking about Top Gun: Maverick Joseph Kosinski has given us one of the best films of the year but also one of the worse. Another film that could’ve been good, but the script failed the talent associated with it. I wish it had been better but it was alas, disappointing.

5) The Gray Man

Another Netflix Original that has no reason to be made. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, The Gray Man had nothing working for it despite having a star-studded cast that desperately tried to make the film work. It was painful to watch such a predictable and dull movie with such fancy names attached to it. The Russo Brothers have really missed their mark after leaving the MCU and the same can be said about the MCU. The film was insanely bad, like so atrocious but there was nothing working because it had no original content. Despite having actors like Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas the film had no emotional connection.

4) Beast

Beast was not a film that I was excited to see but as it starred Idris Elba, I went to watch it and I was severely disappointed. The film tried to give us some character, and a technically sound screenplay but to my dismay the film was riddled with too many plot holes, logical errors and dumb decisions. The family dynamics that were supposed to create drama resulted in some of the most misplaced and dumb lines in the film. There’s a lion behind you and you’re blaming your father for your mother’s death. Do that on your own time.

3) Morbius

I know you’ve been expecting this one, although I know that you’re wondering which films were worse than this, well, be patient. I don’t need to talk much about this I think we all wholesomely agree that literally nothing worked in the film’s favor. I don’t know what happened because the casting of Jared Leto and Matt Smith was quite apt. However, to my surprise, the film didn’t torture me as much as I expected. Maybe because I had such low expectations from the film that it actually turned out to be better than that.

2) Thor: Love and Thunder

I know all the Marvel fans will go crazy on this but deep down you know that Marvel has f*****up big time in this year and except for She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel nothing was as bad as Thor: Love and Thunder (review here). I don’t know what went wrong with the film because it literally has the same team that delivered us Thor: Ragnarok. I think Waititi’s overconfidence is the reason for the film’s failure. A once in a generation talent like Christian Bale was wasted by the MCU. He took the script for granted and hence, this is one of the lowest rated MCU film and very rightly so. There is really only one film that was worse than Love and Thunder this year:

1) Jurassic World: Dominion

Jurassic World Dominion Streaming, Digital, and Bluray Release Date!

Yep, Jurassic World: Dominion (review here), aka, another big blockbuster which will trigger the fans of the franchise. I love Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park and I also love Jurassic World (2015). Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom for sure was a huge disappointment but it was nothing in comparison to what they had in mind for (I hope) the end of the trilogy. The threequel had so many loopholes, and contradictory ideologies. The film preaches co-existence of Dinosaurs and Humans, in a franchise whose USP dinosaurs eating humans. They introduce new creatures which are terrible huge bugs.

You were selling your film on the idea of dinosaurs who are barely seen. Also, I know that different kind of dinosaurs are fascinating but some that featured in the film looked weird and not at all threatening. The T-Rexs and raptors are the dinosaurs that actually look like dinosaurs. They don’t have to do the House of the Dragon route where every dinosaur is different and beautiful looking. I hope they don’t continued this franchise further and end it here but they probably will because despite being awful all the movies have a ton of money. I hope they pass the baton to a filmmaker who has a vision for this franchise so that it doesn’t fall into the pit of mediocrity once again.
