Godzilla Minus One is a Japanese thriller movie set after the second world war. The film is a Godzilla movie but it is not part of Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse. Since its release in late 2023, the entire world has sung praises of the film. Despite only having a budget of $25 million, director Takashi Yamazaki has produced supreme visuals that will put any superhero film to shame. Minus One also happens to be one of the most profitable films of the year as the film has grossed $98 million worldwide. That’s an incredible feat. If you’re one of the admirers of the film and want to own a physical copy of it then you have to endure a long wait.

Godzilla Minus One Blu-ray and 4K Copies Won’t Arrive Soon!

Godzilla Minus One is still going strong in USA theatres despite having been in theatres for more than a month. The film has surpassed all expectations and will soon pass the $100 million mark. Because of the film’s extraordinary box office performance fans have not gotten any update of a digital release date. The makers of the film wish to give it an exclusive theatrical run for a long time.

The only way to get an idea of Minus One’s digital and physical media release window is to take a look at other live-action Toho-distributed films like Shin Ultraman, which was released in theaters (in Japan) on May 13th, 2022. The film later premiered exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Japan on November 18th, 2022, with the physical media release not happening until April 12th, 2023.

If we’re to follow a similar timeline for the Takashi Yamazaki directorial then, Godzilla Minus One won’t be available on Blu-ray and DVD  in the US until late 2024, as late as December maybe. Although, there is one key difference between Shin Ultraman and Godzilla Minus One. The monster flick received a 2,300-theater opening weekend in the US and Canada on December 1st.

This would presumably also push North America’s digital release date. So, we can be hopeful that the film’s digital and physical media release may be fast tracked however, for now it appears that all of us have to wait a long time before we can watch the film at home.

Godzilla Minus One is currently playing in USA theatres.
