Released more than two decades after the original Top Gun, Maverick has exceeded the expectations of trade analysts in its performance. The unprecedented box office performance of Top Gun: Maverick, rejuvenated community movie watching experience with a theatrical ambush. The film raked in almost a billion and a half at the world wide. Naturally this has led the thoughts of continuing the franchise among fans.  Miles Teller, who played Rooster in the film had earlier revealed about a possible sequel to Maverick or simply Top Gun 3. So, here’s everything we know about the potential threequel.

Everything We Know About Top Gun 3!

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently revealed about Top Gun 3 when he was doing a round of interviews for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Bruckheimer said, “It will be Tom Cruise. Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and he (Tom Cruise) said I really like that, so we’re developing it. But you never know when it’s going to get made because Tom is so busy. He’s doing Mission: Impossible right now, he’s got a picture after it. Hopefully, we’ll get a screenplay that he loves, and we’ll be back in the air again.”

What idea Bruckheimer was referring to wasn’t set up in Top Gun: Maverick, so we don’t have any idea what Top Gun 3 might look like. If the threequel ends up having the same writing team then I can assure that it will have a strong script, something that Maverick benefitted from as it earned an Oscar nod for Best Adapted Screenplay, a rarity when it comes to action films.

Another hurdle for Top Gun 3 is Tom Cruise’s schedule. After completing the filming for Mission Impossible 8, Cruise will work on his secretive project with Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. After that, Cruise may even have more projects lined up under his new partnership with Warner Bros., such as Edge of Tomorrow 2, that may further postpone the production timeline for Top Gun 3.
