Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, has finished its theatrical run finally, and it has launched on streaming. After the second movie in the trilogy managed to top Into the Spiderverse in terms of its visuals and storytelling and take Miles Morales’ story to the next level, people have been curious about the release of the last part of the trilogy – Beyond the Spiderverse, considering viewers had to wait for so long for the second part. Previously, Sony had revealed that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse would be released on 29th March, 2024. However, that prospect seems implausible right now with the most recent developments surrounding the film.

What Is Going On With Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-verse Release?

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spiderverse’s release date has been shifted indefinitely, and that has left many fans in complete disarray. There have been many speculations regarding the concrete date of the release, but Sony execs and artists have refused to reveal anything regarding the same. In an interview with Digital Spy, writer-producer Phil Lord said, “Those conversations [about a definite date] are thankfully above our paygrade, but I can tell you we’re already hard at work on it, and we’ll take the time it takes to make it great.”

There could have been many reasons for this delay, one of them being the SAG AFTRA and teh WGA strikes on going, which has resulted in bringing Hollywood to a standstill. There were several reports from the studio’s end which stated that the reason the movie could not be filmed was because of the strike and the voice actor leads : Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld etc. not being able to record their dialogues. However, this allegation cannot be taken too seriously as Steinfeld did confirm before the strike that none of the voiceovers had been done. A number of social media users are stating that this is a plan launched by the production companies to avoid paying their employees.

Another reason could be the expose of the fact that the working conditions for this gig for artists, animators and storytellers was extremely bad. There were multiple cuts of the movie, artists had so much pressure that they compromised their health over this. They had designed several frames which ended up not making it into the movie. The writers and artists were overworked way post their limit which resulted in a number of them quitting. This could be one of the primary reasons for the movie being delayed for which the studios are trying to pin the blame on actors and writers and not the institutionalized framework that refuses to pay them a living wage and instead threatens to replace them with AI.

For now, we can only just wait and watch to find out when the movie is going to come out, it is better if the creators do take their time with the movie, though. Excellence can only be achieved if every part of the movie is handled with care.
