Wonder Man Series: Ben Kingsley Returns as Trevor Slattery!

Marvel shows like Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, Hawkeye, She Hulk and Ironheart (in development), are proof that Marvel has found a formula of introducing new characters and connecting them with the audiences and then adding them into crossover events. Along with all these projects Marvel is also developing and adding one of their oldest superheroes into the mix- Wonder Man. Marvel’s panel at San Diego Comic Con revealed a lot of upcoming content however, it did not address their new Wonder Man series that is already in development. So either the series is planned after Phase 6 i.e., Phase 7 or it is one of the six unannounced projects in Phase 6. Both possibilities are likely as the series does seem to take a lot time in development.

We don’t know anything about the series, not even who plays the lead character- Wonder Man? For those of you who haven’t heard of him and are thinking he is the male counterpart of Wonder Woman, well he is not. Their name is the only thing they’ve in common. However, today we have a glimmer of hope as we have one casting update for the new Marvel show. It is not a new star being added to the MCU rather a recurring returning for Wonder Man.

Trevor Slattery to have a Major Role in Wonder Man Series?

Wonder Man: Marvel's New Live Action series In Development!

Variety reported it first that in the upcoming Marvel TV show Wonder Man, Ben Kingsley who played Mandarin and Trevor Slattery in Iron Man 3 and reprised the role in last year’s Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings will once appear in another MCU project and too in a major capacity. Last we saw of Trevor Slattery he was helping Shang Chi to defeat his namesake. This update is interesting as Slattery is an actor by profession and Wonder Man aka Simon Williams is also involved in the show biz.

Williams’ day job is to be an actor and stunt performer. Wonder Man is one of the oldest characters in Marvel’s long history, and was first introduced in 1964 in an early issue of Avengers. The character named Simon Williams was created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby, and was initially introduced as a supervillain with superpowers ranging from strength to speed to Ionic Energy Manipulation and even teleportation, who fought the Avengers.

While we don’t know who plays Wonder Man, we certainly know the people associated with the project, Shang Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is developing the series along with Brooklyn Nine Nine writer-producer Andrew Guest. While Guest will be the head writer of the series, Cretton is set to act as an executive producer to the series and possibly also direct a few episodes. Reports suggests the project is in early stages of development and if everything goes well the series could begin filming in late 2023.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn had hidden many Wonder Man Easter Eggs by adding posters of Simon Williams played by Nathan Fillion. We know all that was done for a joke but we still don’t have an idea as to who will play Wonder Man. Hopefully we’ll get that update soon.

Wonder Man doesn’t have a release date yet. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release in nearby theatres on 11th November 2022.
